Great day for us,
Going to Gateshead is gonna be tough me thinks !!
Its in our hands now.
a good solid performance all round without ever hitting the heights we know we can. But 3 more points in the bag and that’ s what matters.
Good to see Kearney getting the MOM from the sponsors and Evans first goal for the club.
Well done to all concerned
Well in Tony Evans for your first goal. ;D
OK performance, 3 points and a game nearer to the title. ;D
Seems like Fleetwood were never in it at Gateshead…
that was by far the best display of the season, every player in the squad should be proud of that today, also by far and away that was the most one sided 2-0 you will ever see, if fleetwood play like that at witton i fear for them if witton go for it, a fair score today should have been 7-0, and thats not being horrible to fleetwood, they just didnt turn up. eveyone played well but for me phil turnbull was man of the match, he was awesome in front of the back four all game, good times are back
Two very important results.
Well done to the boys.
Brian’s (606) audible response to an overdeep cross was comedy gold.
Little Thornley Junior’s finishing got the biggest cheer of the day!!
Very important 3 points today, certainly not our best performance of the season but a very professional job done on Whitby. Great to see Morning and Evans get half an hour, Morning looked very very quick and has a touch of class, Evans getting off the mark will give him some confidence. Kearney looked really assured at right back, he’s been patient this season and deserves a run in the side, a well deserved man of the match for him. Clean sheet, 3 goals, and our nearest rivals getting beat, doesn’t get much better than that!
11 games to go, more of the same please boys!
Agree another very important 3 points, first half we played in first gear then after the break we slipped up into second just enough to see off Whitby without getting near the level we can play, great to see Kearney Evans and Morning get a decent run and just goes to show the strength we have on standby, heard before the game we have signed another player too no more details yet.
I agree with all that has been said, we can play better yet we win 3-0!! Gateshead away is a big game, but remember, even if we lose they are still 4 points behind and we have a better goal difference. With 11 games to play we need to win 8 or 9 but I think 8 wins will see us home, to catch us Gateshead basically have to win every one of their last 14 games, that is "miracle" stuff and good as they undoubtedly are, I don’t think they are THAT good, do you?
WHS.
Championship winning performance today. Good use of the squad by JV,Adam Morning( he reminds me of a certain Premiership player but just can’t put a name to him ) looks quality & has got a great left peg. Tony Evans goal lifted him to another level and he fitted in excellently. Just need to keep showing the character and determination we have shown all season and we will get the rewards.
MoM - Steve Brodie
Sounds like all is not well in the Fleetwood camp today too, on the Gateshead forum it says the manager had a few choice words with the traveling support because they were being critical.
The video shows conclusively that the first goal was not offside. Amazingly there are vehement shouts for offside (I assume from the Whitby bench) for all three goals. Clutching at straws, I think.
Is it just me or is the sound played over and over again for each goal?!
We shouldn’t complain really because before the last couple of seasons we couldn’t look at any goals again but I wish they’d show the goal and celebration before the replays start!
We played within ourselves during the first half especially although never looked under any major threat. We won it with 5 minutes of intense pressure before half time and another 5 minutes at the beginning of the second half. When we raise our game like this it is awesome to watch, opposing teams just cant handle it.
Pritch and Kearney were both very strong at the back. Brodie and Thornley worked their socks off again and always give ‘professional’ performances. Thought Brownie looked like he is getting back to his best (he needed games) but the timing is perfect for the run-in. Evans and Morning really impressed when they came on, their best performances yet. They did what attacking subs should do, lifted the game and gave the opposition more to worry about. In particular Morning (or ‘Sunday’ as Mr Lomas has nicknamed him) looks a real asset. He most certainly raised his game yesterday, he was very quick and direct - his cross for Brownie’s header let on was inch perfect. I think he could turn into a very good player.
Good win, pretty much an easy win and no real injuries or problems. Nothing won yet though!
Been trying to access forum all day! A good win yesterday without hitting the heights. I agree with most people, that Kearney was MoM and that Morning and Evans looked good when they came on. More pleasing for me though, was to see Alex Brown back to full fitness. He was again outstanding and it bodes well for us that Macca is waiting for a start, coming to the final straight. It was quite a poor game, and I can feel the tension from the terraces, but we must soldier on. Maybe it was a case of “after the lord mayor’s show” following the Gateshead game. We can and will play better. Keep winning…come on Witttteeeeeerrrrrrrnnnnn!
Just remembered who Adam Morning’s style of play reminds me of- Martin Petrov from the council house ground in Manchester.
Just to show that the linesman was correct with the first goal, I’ve attached a still from the video. Although not the clearest of images, you can easily see that the defender standing towards the right of the goal area is keeping every Witton player onside, indeed goalscorer Steve Brodie is around 7 yards onside!
There are several posts on the Whitby forum saying that the video shows that the goal should have been disallowed for offside, when in fact it backs up the linesman! When Steve Brodie deflects the ball, the same defender mentioned above has been very slow coming out, and although almost hidden from the camera, plays every Albion player onside. This can be seen by pausing the video at the correct point, but I’m not going to bother uploading a still as evidence again.
I was late for the game through work so decided to get a few Aerial Shots from 60 ft up
spot your face in the crowd ?
Nearly
My God Sigi how did you take these shots?
WHS.
