Witton Albion v. Winsford United(Mid Cheshire District FA Senior Cup Semi Final)

Witton turn their attention to cup football on Saturday afternoon, when they welcome Winsford United in the Semi Finals of the Mid Cheshire District FA Senior Cup.

The date was originally an open date due to Albion not having a league fixture scheduled and with Winsford overcoming Barnton at Townfield Lane in midweek, it gave the perfect opportunity to get the game in.

The two clubs last meeting in the competition was back in November 2022 at Barton Stadium where the Blues came out on top with a 3-0 win.

Following their acceptance of demotion to the North West Counties League South, Winsford have found life difficult and currently find themselves in the bottom three in the table so the game will give them the opportunity to put league form aside briefly.

Witton will be hoping to continue their recent improvement but at the same time knowing that their ambitions lie elsewhere, particularly in the league.

At the end of the day, there is silverware on offer and a possible meeting with holders Northwich Victoria in the final so Jon Macken’s team will certainly give the competition the respect it deserves.

There could well be familiy rivalry in the game with the Duckworths playing a significant role in the occasion, Lee managing the Blues and brother Joe possibly leading the Albion attack.

There is also Witton Academy striker Luke who features on a regular basis for Winsford so what an occasion for him.

The game will be completed on the day with penalties deciding the outcome if scores are level at the end of normal time.

Kick off at the U Lock It Stadium is 3pm.
