Witton Albion v. Workington

They were a decent team last year but threw away promotion. Don’t seem as good this season. I reckon we should run out comfy winners with our new defence and Joe getting the goals.

Witton return to league action on Saturday afternoon when they welcome Workington AFC in a Northern Premier League West Division fixture.

Albion were inactive in midweek following the postponement of the scheduled game at Bootle, as the Bucks were involved in an Emirates FA Challenge Cup replay but sadly, they bowed out to Congleton Town.

Workington picked up their first league win in midweek with a 2-1 victory over Trafford FC, taking them upto eleventh in the table with four points after three games.

The Cumbrian side came very close to promotion last season and were pipped for the title on the final day by Warrington Rylands, leaving them to face the Play Offs and things appeared to be going well as they led Marine 2-0 in the semi final but were pegged back and then lost it in extra time.

Manager Chris Willcock then parted company and they are now under the guidance of former player Danny Grainger.

The game is the first meeting between the two clubs in any competition since April 6th 2019, when Albion claimed the points with a 2-0 win at the U Lock It Stadium or Wincham Park as it was then in a Northern Premier League Premier Division fixture.

Games against Workington are always keenly contested and this one will be no different but Wiiton will have to be at their best if they are to secure their first league victory of the season.

Kick off at the U Lock It Stadium is 3pm.

Need to keep our Home form going and pick up all 3 points here, I dont think it will be easy and I will go for a 2-1 win for the Albion.

Three points would of course be very welcome but we must not get carried away, this group of players has only played three competitive games together so far. I suggest a target of ten points or more from the first eight games is realistic. That would put us on course for a comfortable mid-table position, hopefully with improving results and performances as the season progresses to raise expectations.
Best of luck today lads.

I’ll be sitting here in sunny Spain, “watching” the game via the forum (what WOULD we do without Wheels? :+1:).

Home soon - and hoping to get up to Wincham as much as possible to cheer on the Albion :soccer:

Good luck this afternoon lads - give it everything and make us proud

Up the Albion!
