Witton Albion vs 1874 Northwich(MCSC SF).

We seemed to be cruising to a facile victory into the second half until 1874 scored. I didn’t see what happened with the sending off so can’t comment but we were very lucky to win it at the end! We’ll have to play a damn sight better than that to avoid relegation and Titch needs something positive to go for him or a bit of luck or something! Two good chances tonight went begging and he looks a shadow of his former self, a confidence boost from somewhere might just do the job. I must say Ryan Swift looked good when he has played but seems not to thought ready? I’m beginning to fear the worst again!

If were poor then what does that make you 2 divisions above

Witton are poor side but tonight got dragged down to your standard and it just ain’t good enough. Your number 10 could do us some good though.

Matty Ward yes far to good for our level even your level he came from Droylesden messi of the north west counties league lol

Let’s hope we have some better encounters in the future. All the best for the rest of the season.

Tonight was a good cup tie and it’s unfair to describe it as a poor game. Great to see a derby game again in the town with a decent atmosphere, the rivalry is much needed. Witton controlled the 1st half and 1874 played well to get back into the game. Witton did very well 10 v 11 for majority of 2nd half and the game could have gone either way before the superb winning goal. Personally I hope many more derby games to come in the future!!

Going against most posts I really enjoyed tonight’s game. It was what a cup and local derby game should be,not much football but plenty of passion . I think that sometimes we all expect too much from our players. At the end of the day they’re mostly young lads trying their hardest at a hard non league level. If we want to watch supposedly world class players stay at home and watch the millionaires!??

A funny old game, periods of great tedium (eg. end of the first half) and those of real drama. Some really good goals and a lot of honest effort interspersed with some very poor passing phases by both teams.

I thought 1974 showed themselves in a good light, both on and off the pitch, but why don’t their fans go behind the goal? This is Wincham Park, not Winsford!! Anyway, nice to see the ground with a bit of atmosphere and I look forward to more derby games in the future. I’d also take 1874’s centre back any day, he hardly missed a header.

Got to disagree mate we were playing a NWCL team last night, and we again just pressed the destruction button in the 2nd half, it’s well and good saying they are trying their hardest, most probably are but come May when we are relegated what can we say, well at least they tried hard! Sorry but this HAS to be the reality check that Sullivan needed, to the fact our squad is now embarrassingly small, I mean last night apart from Swift we had players on the bench that Pritch wouldn’t have had cleaning boots! We have no formation last night Titch and Rainford looked lost and confused as to who was meant to be playing through the middle, so at times no one was! The midfield is so immobile it’s almost pedestrian, and poor Danny Andrews is floating around like a spare part at a wedding, that lad should be who we build the team around he is head and shoulders above everybody else!

You can say we won / it was a derby / we tried hard / the result is all that matters etc but all that is doing is papering over the cracks, we are being laughed at by 1874 fans for that shambolic 2nd half display, I already spoken to people who are saying well Witton aren’t two divisions above 1874, it’s EMBARRSING!

Well it would be if you could spell it

Joking apart, bigger teams than Witton have been over turned by teams 2 divisions lower. You have to give 1874 some credit for their performance, especially after we let them back into the game from being 2-0 up.

That said, what we saw on the pitch last night, the management team and chairman also saw. It won’t have been lost on them and I am sure they will try everything they can to ensure we stay up.,

For our part, we can only support the guys on the pitch and get behind them.

I wouldn’t say its embarrassing at all. Firstly we WON the game, secondly we ARE two divisions above! Yes, the squad does need additions as we had next to nothing on the bench BUT we came through the game with 10 men for most of the second half!! Their first goal was well taken but their second our keeper should have been on his line and caught it!
Danny Andrews was class as usual and i felt the lads put the effort in - not happy with Zac getting himself sent off but thought the officials were pretty poor.

Disagree, but yes the keeper was at fault for the second goal, Corbett can have no arguments a silly error on his part that could have cost us the game really. I suppose its which way you look at it half full or half empty, but i am really starting to fear for the worst.

I agree wholeheartedly our defence is ropey at best. The effort maybe there but the quality certainly isn’t. We have totake a reality check and think of the quality of opposition we faced last night.

Totally agree Danny is something special,
but he can,t keep it doing alone he needs some help.,Again last night we were constantly
hitting high balls to Jamie and Titch, especially our keeper i don,t think we won one all night
we badly need some width to create opportunities for Danny and our strikers,it is easy to defend
in a congested middle.

Hi Chaps and Chapesses,

They are 1874 centric but it was for our supporters primarily. Hope you understand.
Chubbs. B)

As we won we will let’s you off, thanks for your efforts.

Excellent highlights, good to watch it back and see the incidents for the sendings off etc. great job!

Yes many thanks from me too, very good highlights a great job

Excellent quality video, which I thoroughly enjoyed watching.

The only poor bit was listening to my dulcet tones at the beginning of the 2nd half, having a bit of banter with 1874’s Dan Gurney and Brian Edge.

Speaking to a newcomer to the area who has been watching 1874, came on Tuesday and the two things which impressed him the most about Witton Albion, where the skill and fitness levels compared to 1874 and the Wincham Park Stadium, will definitely come to watch us in the future well done to all! B)
