Witton look to follow up Saturday’s excellent performance and result against leaders South Shields, when they welcome Ashton United to Wincham Park on Tuesday night in a Northern Premier League fixture. Following their relegation from the National League North at the end of last season, Ashton find themselves at the lower end of the table having won only twice in their first ten league games so far. Both of those victories have come on their travels at Grantham Town and Mickleover Sports respectively. Despite ending South Shields unbeaten away record at the weekend and in such fine style, Witton still find themselves in thirteenth place in the league table due to results elsewhere but the signs are now there that recent additions to the squad have had an impact. Tuesday’s game should see the return of one former Albion favourite amongst the visitors playing staff in forward Steven Tames, who arrived at Hurst Cross following his departure from Bala Town. His prominent role in Albion’s promotion almost two years ago will be remembered by all Wittoners for years to come. He has netted on a number occasions already for his new employers and will certainly need watching on his return to Wincham Park. Ashton suffered defeat at the weekend in their latest league outing, going down 3-0 at in-form Lancaster City who Albion have to face in the FA Trophy in the coming weeks. Witton will go into the game in confident mood following the weekend but will not be taking Ashton lightly. Kick off at Wincham Park is 7.45pm.
