Witton Albion vs Bamber Bridge (Buildbase FA Challenge Trophy First Round).

Competitive football returns to Wincham Park on Saturday afternoon for the first time since late October, when Witton welcome Bamber Bridge in the First Round of the Buildbase FA Challenge Trophy.

The last game in any competition saw Witton beat Atherton Collieries in a Northern Premier League Premier Division fixture and victory took Albion into the Play Off places following four successive wins before the season was suspended.

The management team have been busy trying to keep the players fitness levels as best as they can in what are very difficult times but there is no substitute for playing matches.

The friendly against Northwich Victoria last weekend, gave the players valuable minutes and the win was a bonus but I think everyone would agree that the result was secondary on the day. At least the management team were able to utilise the majority of the squad which will have been of great benefit with the enforced break in competitive football.

Saturday’s game gives the Albion the chance to progress in Non league’s major competition and with the league programme still suspended, their focus can be concentrated on the one aspect for the time being.

Tuesday’s original fixture fell victim to the weather which is why Witton have to try again to progress and with a hectic few days ahead, the next round being scheduled for Tuesday night but that is for another day should Witton progress.

Bamber Bridge found themselves near the lower end of the table when the season was halted but cup football can be so unpredictable at the best of times so, they will certainly provide a difficult test for Witton and we will have to perform in order to continue our run in the competition.

Kick Off at Wincham Park is 3pm.

Message from the Chairman

Due to the incessant rain this week, there will be a pitch inspection at approx 9.00am in the morning at both Wincham Park and Bamber Bridge ahead of our FA Trophy tie.

Should our pitch fail an inspection and Bamber Bridge pass theirs (which looks the more likely, looking at the weather forecast) then the tie will be switched to Bamber Bridge, kick off 3.00pm.

The attendance will be limited to 300 as they are in Tier 3 and Witton supporters are advised not to attend as a result.

Should both pitches fail an inspection, there are plans in place to play at a neutral venue which unfortunately will be behind closed doors on Sunday afternoon.

We have had to take this drastic action on venue due to the insistence of the FA that all First Round ties must be played by no later than Sunday 13th December.

Failure to fulfil the fixture will lead to our elimination from the competition.

We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.

John Salmon.

Details of the outcome will be posted on here as soon as the information is known.

Following a pitch inspection, the game will be played at Wincham Park as scheduled.

The Groundstaff would appreciate any help in getting everything ready ahead of the game ASAP.
