This game against the Jam Towners has now become quite important - it gives us a chance to regroup and sort out how we approach the season from here on in. It also gives us a chance to bag some goals and give the team some much needed confidence. I know it never really works out like that but this is no time for shirking the responsibilities of this time of the season.
Don’t forget you can get in for £5 for Adults ( and you don’t have to bring a child ) and £3 for concessions.
Eli, I believe Barnton was one of the first places locally to have an estate of reasonably priced houses that local people could just afford, but only if they lived on “Jam Butties”. The woman were also referred to as having “Fur coats but no knickers”. These allegations came from people who were jealous of the fact that the Barnton people had “moved up in the world”.

Correct. The housing was provided by Brunner Mond and rent deducted at source, leaving what seemed a smaller pay packet. The rest of the town though the residents could therefore only afford to eat jam butties, which was untrue.
The source of this information is a history of Brunner Mond & ICI available from Northwich Library (can’t remember the title). The building itself was a gift from Brunner Mond.
Nothing wrong with a jam butty as long as the jam was RED. Think we reffered to them as door stoppers. Staple part of our diet when we were kids along with drippin’ !
If I am not at the game tonight it is because I have gone on a trip with my old school, Weaverham, to help out, not because I don’t care or because I am boycotting the club!! Despite Rugby being on on Saturday I WILL be there at the ground to support the team as I recognise it is “All hands to the pumps” at the moment.
