Weather permitting, Witton welcome Barwell FC to The NetDec Stadium on Saturday afternoon in an Evo-Stik Premier Division fixture. The Leicestershire club go into the weekend currently in 17th place in the table after an inconsistent run of results, having lost at home to Marine then beating Coalville Town, who had subsequently beaten Witton’s last opponents Warrington Town prior to that. Despite their position in the lower half of the division they are not all that far off the top ten in terms of points and can climb the table if they can put a run together over the coming weeks. Barwell have performed well in their previous trips to Wincham Park and might have gone home with all three points on the last visit, but for a second half fightback from Albion which rescued a point. Our visitors have also added to their squad this week so they will be looking to impose themselves on the game and put in a performance. Witton will be looking to bounce back from the defeat to Cheshire neighbours Warrington Town on Boxing Day and keep up the pursuit of the top clubs. They will also want to put in a performance ahead of the upcoming clash with leaders Altrincham only a few days away but, that’s for the future. Barwell will pose a different threat and that is what the focus should be on for now. Kick off at The NetDec Stadium is 3pm.

Regretfully, we have had to pull the plug on transport from Northwich and Witton Chimes to the stadium and return. The last time it was used, we had 5 people use the service. It was originally intended to attract new supporters who found it difficult getting to the ground, through lack of transport, youngsters, older people and disabled etc. We had no problem at all in regular supporters jumping on board, but we’re now losing too much money on this, and not attracting new supporters who would have paid for the service by admission charges and all the extras, which is just not happening.
We can only try new ideas, but we must also be aware when they don’t work, action needs to be taken.
