Witton Albion vs Basford United.

Witton welcome Basford United to The NetDec Stadium on Saturday, in an Evo-Stik Division One South fixture. The fixture will be the first time that the two clubs have met and the Nottingham - based club are enjoying a very good start to the season so far, having won four out of their last five league games. They have been quite prolific in front of goal so far but have also appeared rather vulnerable defensively in their games upto now so, hopefully an exciting game will be on the cards. Witton will be hoping to follow up Tuesday night’s impressive away victory at Newcastle Town with three points and keep their hundred percent home record intact. It will certainly be a tough encounter. Kick off at The NetDec Stadium is 3pm.

Basford United First Team will be seeking their third successive league win when they travel to Witton Albion on Saturday (3.0).

The team recorded two victories in three days last weekend, with Monday’s night’s 4-2 win over Leek Town achieved despite playing with ten men and no recognised goalkeeper for an hour after Saul Deeney was sent off.

Manager Martin Carruthers was delighted, saying:
“The Leek game was absolutely massive. We had hoped to get a result against a very strong side, but the way it turned out was amazing. We know we have dominated games but not taken our chances, but to go two up in seven minutes was great. It was then very disappointing to let the lead slip, but to come back and win like we did was tremendous.

“The spirit and application of the team was phenomenal. It was the most pleasing performance since I have been at the club. We defended very well, which proves what we can do and we will looking to take that form into our future games."

Carruthers was pleased with the form of Courey Grantham who opened his account for the season with two goals: "Hopefully Courey can kick on from here, and get the goals that he is undoubtedly capable of.”

There were also first senior goals for Callum Smith and Jack Wood. Carruthers added: “Callum has been sensational since coming into the team, it was great to see him get his first goal. Jack has been unlucky with injuries but is now fully fit and is showing what he can do. It shows just how strong the youth side of the club is when players are coming through and doing well for the first team.

Carruthers also paid tribute to stand in keeper Fabian Smith: “Fabs has been at the club a long time and now must have played in every position, he was just incredible. The supporters too were superb, really getting behind the team and cheering every time Fabs made a save. The atmosphere was tremendous.”

Turning to Saturday, Carruthers said: “Witton are a good side and will be there or thereabouts at the end of the season. They had a good win in midweek over Newcastle Town. We have something of a selection problem, but it’s a nice one to have as players who have come in to the team recently due to injuries have made strong cases for retaining their places.”

There are doubts over Ben Hutchinson, Robbie McNicholas and Gary Ricketts, who are all named in this squad:
Deeney, McNicholas, F Smith, Bennett, Rowley, Meikle, Sheridan, Grayson, C Smith, Ricketts, Hutchinson, Grantham, Dixon, Walker, Jack Wood, Wakefield, Pickbourne, Jake Wood.

Reminder that the bus to the game leaves Greenwich Avenue at 11am, fare £5 for supporters.

All the best lads.

Hard too see Carl pick anything but the team that beat Newcastle so convincingly, Me I would tweak it just to get Prince further forward, Basford are doing pretty well in the league recently so its going to be another tough game ! lets hope for a decent crowd to support the lads who have been playing so well. UTA

Yes let’s really get behind the team tomorrow and show our commitment to Witton, just as the players have been doing, and getting us up the league. UTA

Sadly I will not be using my season ticket today as I am doing FOH for MCMTC at the Grange Theatre. I will be there in spirit though.ONWARD AND UPWARDS :clap :clap :clap
