Witton welcome Basford United to Wincham Park on Saturday afternoon in an Evo-Stik Premier Division fixture. The Nottingham-based club arrive in Cheshire only one place above Albion in the table and the two are only separated on goal difference. A rather depleted Witton team had to show all their determination and battling qualities in midweek whilst earning a draw with Stafford Rangers although, they were only denied all three points by a very late equaliser. Basford although not in league action did progress through to the final of the Nottinghamshire Senior Cup by overcoming Hucknall Town 4-1 and booking a date against Carlton Town. Following the departure of manager Martin Carruthers, Basford are under the temporary guidance of striker Liam Hearn, who has assumed the mantle of interim boss. Their form in recent weeks hasn’t been the best particularly away from Greenwich Avenue, where they have lost five of their last seven on the road. Witton’s form has been good, having won five and drawn one of their last seven games and the home form has also seen a vast improvement. Basford’s previous visit to Wincham Park saw them beaten by two goals to one in a Division One South fixture during Witton’s promotion season and they will be looking to complete the double over Witton in this season’s campaign following a 3-1 success in the return meeting. The game is a “six pointer” with nothing between the two clubs as it stands and Witton will be looking to continue their recent good form but, they face a tough test and will need to perform well to get the desired result. Kick off at Wincham Park is 3pm.
