Always happy to progress in the FA Cup and collect some welcome prize money but I have to agree with Chad. Daylight robbery. We have no invention in midfield at all, Smith should never have started at centre back when Bainbridge and Lycett were sat on the bench and for me Jon Dawson should start every game with the players we have to choose from and finally if Lycett was injured he shouldn’t have been on the bench. I think I’ll book an appointment at the dentist for our next home game as I would sooner have teeth pulled than watch that every week. Why was the crowd so low? after watching that I have a good idea.
I think when all are fit and available we can put out a decent 11, probably playing a 3-5-2 which might suit our players and we must use our best players in the best way someone else said it yesterday and it makes a lot of sense something like this :
Roberts
Gards Chadwick Lycett
Green Diskin Roberts Danny Dawson
Titch, Cropper
And play Titch on the shoulder as a front 2 with Cropper, you can play tunes with it of course but Id play Diskin in front of the defence whilst he is not that creative he is a good athlete and has a great engine so that would allow our best 2 creative players Andrews and Roberts to create and attack Green and Dawson would make good Wing backs ( but maybe not fullbacks ) you could argue that Bainbridge at centre back and Gards at right wing back but I like the idea of Gards extra pace in the back 3.
Im not trying to tell Scott what to do just showing that in theory we can put out a decent 11 but when you try to put that into a 4-4-2 team it doesn’t really work the same, eg we have a weakness at left fullback, not enough in centre mid and winger options that don’t bring the best out of the players, we can of course look to play 4-4-2 but then I think we need 2-3 players to fill the gaps.
I know we won and we are all pleased to be in the hat but at the current level we are at expectations are higher than mid table so we do need to improve to progress and the suggestion made yesterday made a lot of sense something to think about. UTA
There is still Tom Schofield to come back into contention when he’s fit again as well.
Yes would be good to see him fit, as he had his op yet ? and when do we think Tom will be back Im guessing after a minor knee op could be maybe new year ? Could see him in the start 11 for sure.
Not sure whether CJ is right or wrong about players or tactics, that’s the job of the management team. All I know is that I thought we were fortunate yesterday against a Farsley side that played some really neat football. Our second goal was a wonder strike that will take some beating for goal of the season and deserved to win any game. Add to that some hard, work endeavour and a well worked first goal and some how we got through.
That said I never feel sorry for Farsley after that farce of a goal (the infamous off side goal) which enabled them to get a vital promotion win at WP. So just deserts after all.
Not sure my nerves will last a season though …
Disagree slightly Knutsfordian, it was a poor game but I thought we just about edged it. The effort and commitment can’t be faulted but we are definitely lacking quality and our keeper once again proved how good he is. As for the second goal it was right up there with the best I have ever seen at WP, watching Bentekes at Old Trafford on match of the day I had to look twice to make sure it wasn’t highlights from our game! UTA
The latest I’ve heard on Tom Schofield is that he had his operation and I believe has started training again.
was the game recorded ? If it was, it would be good to see the goals again !!
Not sure about that.
I have since been informed that Farsley filmed the action from Saturday’s game.

2nd goal gets better with every viewing !
Brilliant goal!
It certainly was!! I thought “he’s not going to…oh heck he has!!”
Brilliant thanks for the link, was spectacular goal by Jay and Titches goal was real quality even hard to spot it in the replay. UTA
This was the strangest match I’ve seen in a long while and if I’m honest Farsley should have won and would have done but for very poor finishing. Neil Parsley said as much in the club after. Our two goals were flashes of brilliance from Jon Dawson ,Titch and Jay Matthews. Interestingly 3 lads who our manager would probably not start in normal circumstances.
I know its still early season to judge but I find the managers team choice somewhat baffling and I agree with an earlier post made by CJ. On Saturday we started with Smith at centre back when the lad Bainbridge who is younger and more mobile could have played. We need a left back because Niall Green does not look happy there. Gards going off injured did not help and he’s our best player at the moment along with the goalie. The midfiled was non exsistent though I would always start Diskin because he has a good engine and would be a good foil for Roberts. Dawson should always start for me because he can go past people with pace and it was his cross to Titch that got us the goal. The lad Baker tends to run out of steam and loses the ball too often for me so I would always prefer Jon in that position. Danny is yet to hit his best form and if Titch is played on the hip of their centre back rather than further back I’m sure he would be really effective. Its just a question of whether its Titch and Cropper or Titch and Mills. Obviously Matthews could come into it he he keeps developing as his goal was brilliant. So I agree more or less with CJ on team selection and I’m really not quite sure why our manager is not picking a team that can compete more. I’m not faulting the effort here its more a question of using players skills in a better team shape
I was really dissapointed with the gate and it just illustrates to me that our club is in the doldrums as their are many missing faces at the moment. I won’t go into the ground share thing which I find quite demoriIising at the moment. I’m really glad we just got through and have a lucretive draw in the next round. I just hope the manager is learning from what he’s seen so far and picks the right team along the lines of what CJ suggests in an earlier post and who knows we could give FC a shock!!
Goal of the Month!!!
WHS.
very Likely goal of the SEASON !
