Witton Albion vs Grantham Town.

After an unbeaten league record throughout November, Carl Macauley’s Witton Albion side go into December looking to continue in the same vein and remain amongst the play-off contenders in the Northern Premier League.

Albion picked up excellent victories over Mickleover Sports and Scarborough Athletic, with hard-earned draws secured against FC United of Manchester and Hyde United during November, and so the side should take plenty of confidence from both results and performances in those four tricky fixtures.

Their first test of the new calendar month is a home fixture with Grantham Town at Wincham Park. The corresponding match last term saw Witton come out on top as they picked up a 1-0 win courtesy of a late Will Jones strike.

Last weekend, while Albion were battling against the cold and Hyde United to collect a goalless draw at Ewen Fields, Grantham’s home game with Matlock Town had to be abandoned after an hour due to fog.

The Gingerbreads were trailing 2-1 at the time and currently occupy 15th position in the league standings. However, they do have a number of games in hand on the majority of clubs in and around them, so they certainly can’t and won’t be underestimated by the Albion manager and his players.

Liam Goulding limped off at Hyde United and will be a doubt for this game, while full-back James Short also sustained a knock last weekend and their fitness will be assessed prior to kick-off.
