Witton Albion vs Gresley FC

Witton welcome Gresley FC to The NetDec Stadium on Saturday in an Evo-Stik Division One South fixture. The meeting will represent the first game between the two sides in their present guise, although Witton have encountered Gresley in a different form in the past. In the 1988/89 season, Witton were drawn away to Gresley Rovers in the First Qualifying Round of the FA Cup and took a 2-0 lead inside the first half hour courtesy of a brace from John Coleman, only to be pegged back and then winning the replay by a single goal. The previous club were liquidated at the end on the 2009 season following financial difficulties and then reformed as Gresley FC in 2009/10. The Moatmen currently sitting in 15th position in the table following a mixed campaign so far, having lost ten out of 25 league games to date but have had some good results in the process. A number of their established players have also made the relatively short move to their neighbours at Belper Town, which hasn’t helped them but they are now looking to establish themselves again and make progress. Witton will be hoping to make up a bit of ground on the teams at the top but the period of inactivity hasn’t helped their cause. Kick off at The NetDec Stadium is 3pm.
