Witton bring down the curtain on another excellent season on Saturday afternoon, when they welcome Hednesford Town to Wincham Park in the final Evo-Stik Premier Division fixture. The team have performed excellently and are in with a chance of replicating last season’s achievement of finishing seventh in the table but that is also dependent on other results. An excellent away record has helped in that respect but who knows what could’ve been, if the improvement in the home form had come a bit sooner. Excellent runs in both the Emirates FA Challenge Cup and Buildbase FA Challenge Trophy have also been of great benefit to the club especially in terms of finances. Albion go into the final day with the chance of achieving the most clean sheets throughout the season, a record they currently share with Warrington Town and the chance to complete another double following the 1-0 win at Keys Park earlier in the season. If anything has held the team back this season, it has surely been the shortage of league goals but it was always going to be a tough challenge following last season. The players have done their best for the club and the supporters and that is all anyone can ever ask and they deserve credit for what they have achieved. It will of course be good if they can end the season with three points but Hednesford Town will be aiming to finish in a positive manner also and Witton will give them the respect they deserve as with any other opponent. The Pitmen have had a mixed season and look likely to finish around mid-table and will no doubt come back strong next season. Kick off at Wincham Park is 3pm.
