Witton Albion vs Hyde United.

Witton welcome promoted Hyde United to Wincham Park on Tuesday evening for the opening Evo-Stik Premier Division “home” fixture. The Tigers began their campaign at the weekend with a 1-0 home win against Evo-Stik Division One South Champions Basford United and enjoyed a very strong campaign last season, finishing third in the First Division North and remaining unbeaten at home throughout the season in the league. Meetings between the two clubs have been a rarity in recent years apart from being drawn together in the Cheshire Senior Cup on a couple of occasions, the last being last season when Hyde ended Witton’s quest for silverware, winning 3-1 at Wincham Park. In fact you would have to go back to the 2004/05 season to find the last league fixture, a game which saw the points shared in a 1-1 draw also here at Wincham Park. Witton’s start to the season couldn’t have been any tougher than having to make the long trip to the North East to take on South Shields. A formidable challenge but, Witton can feel disappointed that they came away empty-handed despite their efforts in a game which they were by no means outplayed. They will be looking to build on the good things from that performance as they aim to put the first points on the board but Hyde will provide tough opposition and any result will have to be earned. Kick off at Wincham Park is 7.45pm.
