Witton Albion vs Kidsgrove Athletic (Integro League Cup Second Round).

Witton complete a run of four successive cup fixtures on Tuesday evening when they welcome Kidsgrove Athletic to Wincham Park in the Second Round of the Integro League Challenge Cup. Our visitors go into the game following a blank weekend due to the postponement of their Buildbase FA Challenge Trophy First Qualifying Round tie. Witton’s cup exploits have been a bit mixed in recent weeks with their FA Challenge Cup run ending at the final qualifying stage, before they bowed out of the Cheshire Senior Cup at the first hurdle only to get things back on track at the weekend by beating Whitby Town in the FA Trophy. The game gives Witton an opportunity to progress in another competition and begin another run but the real concern will be the lack of league action in recent weeks. The competition also allows Albion boss Carl Macauley the chance to give game time to some players who perhaps haven’t featured much, whilst at the same time wanting to take the game as seriously as possible. Kidsgrove will see this as a chance for them also to continue a run in the competition and obviously in their position, cause an upset against a higher ranked club. They certainly have the capability to cause problems for Witton particularly, in the shape of striker Anthony Malbon a player well-known for his goalscoring prowess. The game will not be an easy test for Witton and it could all come down to who wants it more. Should the game be drawn after normal time the tie will be decided on penalties with no extra time. Kick off at Wincham Park is 7.45pm.
