Right, I may be well off the mark here, but did the Albion face a Liverpool side in a pre-season friendly in the mid/late 90s? I would thought it would have been around 95/96/97.
I remember that being my first visit to the Albs as a small child if so. I’ve asked my dad and he can’t remember, just curious as to whether it actually happened or I’ve made it up in my head.
Also… I think I rode a donkey on the old car park behind the Wincham goal. Surely not though?
More than happy to prove you aren’t going mad
13-Aug-96 LIVERPOOL X1 3-4 521 Colin Caton, Matty Helm, Liam Watson (Lee Jones 2, Paul Dalglish, Gareth Roberts)
We also hosted them at Wincham Park on:-
7-Aug-90 LIVERPOOL RESERVES 0-3 666 (Jim Magilton 2, Mike Marsh)
10-Aug-91 LIVERPOOL RESERVES 0-1 850 (David Speedie)
For the record Albion, prior to moving to Wincham played a Liverpool X1 on ten occasions between 1971 & 1987.at the Central Ground
Thanks for the info Chad Snr, it was doing my head in!
Have we ever had donkeys at WP…? I don’t mean on the pitch either!
i remember the last match, i sat in the stands with my witton top on and a liverpool scarf… Liverpool had a young centre half called eddie turkington playing and he was widely regarded as the worst centre half ever to put on a red shirt. I also remember liverpool midfielder David Thompson ( 5 foot 4) out jumping Colin Caton ( massive) for a header.
