3 pts 2 good goals - enough said !
well done to speare for holding on to a clean sheet very impressed and seemed to know what he was doing. again midfield looked a bit nervy but improved with dunn back in the middle
Fantastic result tonight! Every player gave 100%. I was also very impressed with the keeper.Dunn also had a great game. And what a goal off Pritch!
Playing some good football, and I think we will improve even more on that.
Keeper was solid and comfortable between the sticks. Matlock looked like a very poor side with little to offer and they may well go down.
Leigh 0-0 Boston, good to see that result come in too.
I was at the side, what happened with Lugsdens effort? I thought the goal was dissallowed? He didn’t miss it surely he was right in front of an open goal…
I thought we played well for the 1st 20 mins and last ten of the 1st half. The 2nd goal was crucial and dictated our game plan second half. Matlock had most of the posession 2nd half but didn’t really create much in the way of clear cut chances - can’t think of any saves that Speare had to make.
Crucial 3 points and job done - MOM for me had to be Pritch though - Solid at the back and I believe he’s taking Mose to finishing school after training on Thursday!
three points is all that matters now, and they were deserved last night.
below is a quote of the matlock board.
Outfought, outplayed & we were out of reach really of threatening the very organised Witton outfit, who to be honest should never be in their position in the table. My MOM was old Pritchard…who never missed a thing in the whole game, what a stalwart he`s been for Witton.
My MOM was old Pritchard.
I did try and ‘sway’ the sponsors in favour of Pritch especially with it being his 650th game but they stayed with Ashley, who did have a great game too.
OK, it wasn’t very pretty, but it was the result that we needed. Earlier on in the season, plenty of people were saying they weren’t concerned about seeing good football, so long as we stayed up. Well, last night was an object lesson in that noble art! So well done to the team for getting done the job that had to be done - maybe they deserved a bit more appreciation than they got during the game?
I didn’t like the way that we conceded the initiative at the start of the second half, we seemed unable to get out of our own half, always a dangerous game to play. Having said that, I though we did a much better job in the last 20-25 minutes of defending in their half - we might not have produced much excitement around their goal, but we didn’t look like giving the game away, like we were doing so often earlier in the season.
So, thanks to Gary and his team, they’ve given us hope again. A few more games like last night’s and we’ll be OK. Our results since Christmas have been pretty good, we’d be in with a shout for the playoffs if we’d showed that kind of form all season!
I know he doesn’t like the fanfare, but going back to Pritch…
650 games, another vital contribution in scoring the opening goal. A fantastic defensive performance all night aswell, and all this from a player who is carrying an injury…
The guy has been immense all season, which comes as no suprise.
The biggest testament you can pay to Brian is my Dad’s summary of every game;
“Keeper, not good enough. Fullbacks, not good enough. Midfield, weak. Wingers, can’t cross a ball. Strikers, hopeless. But Pritchard, what a man, what a player, what a gentleman.” Every single week!
A lot of people did harm to this Club over the summer, but someone like Pritch shows that there are plenty of good guys left in the game. I think we should all be grateful that we’re lucky enough to have someone like him at our football club.
Agreed Robbo…
Its great how Pritch and Boothy have formed a great partnership at the back aswell. rock solid.
come on witeernnn!!
