Well done boys
Thank you to everyone who contributed to the pitch fund at today’s game which totalled £210.
Thank you as always to Tracey Collins for her efforts.
A very valuable win but didn’t think it would be after a terrible first half of next to nothing from the Albs. It only improved when Owens came on to add some drive and creativity to the midfield! It’s hard to judge strikers with absolutely no service so the jury’s out for me on Saunders. We will be lucky to survive this league without the addition of a midfielder to replace Smart, the dull, negative approach we take is starting to show now in the gates. Something has to improve or change!
A good result and hopefully a confidence builder for both the lads and the fans as well. CJ, fans are very fickle and when the team start winning again they come back in dribs and drabs, just like they disappear when teams are losing. I’m sure Carl and Gary are looking for players but there aren’t too many Billy Smart type midfield players around. Lets celebrate a win and be happy on Saturday night.
Presumably the 1-0 NPL home win in August 2019 v Mickleover Sports no longer counts?
In the 2019/20 season, all results were declared null and void due to the Pandemic, that was the first season and then it was declared null and void again last season.
That’s as may be, but the esteemed WAFC match programme editor still included a write-up of the August 2019 Witton v Mickleover match in the “Last time we met” feature, and also included the match within the “Previous Encounters” statistics, in yesterday’s edition of the match programme.
In addition, the Football Association did see fit, earlier in the year, to determine which three clubs should be moved up from the North West Counties Football League to the Northern Premier League (namely 1874 Northwich, Bootle and Warrington Rylands) based partly on unweighted points per game from their 2019-20 and 2020-21 playing records.
So maybe fixtures/results and player appearances from the last couple of seasons should still count in club record books, even if no league silverware was actually won?!
I understand and appreciate what you’re saying but because the results were declared null and void and results were expunged, it’s as though the game never took place. From my understanding, the only statistics that stand from those games are any cards received by players.
Good points, well made, maybe need to let the Programme Editor know?!
As for the game itself, not one to live too long in the memory and Mickleover will probably be wondering how they didn’t get anything from the game, as Greg Hall was certainly the busier goalkeeper early on. Arguably it was the second half introduction of Tom Owens for Witton that proved to be the game changer.
Useful three points for the Albion!
