Witton Albion vs Morpeth Town.

Witton look to return to action for the first time in more than a week, when they welcome Morpeth Town in a re arranged Northern Premier League Premier Division fixture on Tuesday night.

The weekend saw a very disrupted programme in which only three games were played in the top division, a situation that didn’t really have any bearing on Witton’s position.

Witton go into the game looking to complete the league double over the Highwaymen following a 2-1 victory in the reverse fixture at Craik Park earlier in the season, courtesy of a brace from leading goalscorer Callum Saunders but another tough encounter faces them in this game.

Morpeth enjoyed an excellent run in the Buildbase FA Challenge Trophy where they carried the flag for the Northern Premier League and acquitted themselves well against York City, before bowing out to a last minute goal after leading 2-1 late in the game.

They’ll certainly take confidence from that experience as the season continues towards its conclusion and aim to finish as high up the table as they can.

A big week lies ahead for Witton with away trips to relegation rivals Grantham Town and Nantwich Town respectively but, the minds need to be concentrated on Morpeth Town first and then look further ahead.

Each game is huge in Witton’s position and they will be looking to haul themselves to safety in the weeks to come but it needs to to start now.

Kick off at the U Lock It Stadium is 7.45pm.

Presumably some sort of precautionary pitch inspection needed by early afternoon tomorrow, in view of the recent weather and the distance that the opposition are travelling?

Good luck Albion if it’s On UTA

There is a Pitch Inspection scheduled for 12noon ahead of tonight’s game.

Details of the outcome will be posted on here as soon as the decision is announced.

MATCH POSTPONED - Due to a Waterlogged Pitch.

Details of the re arranged fixture will be announced in due course.

Maybe it’s time to look at a 4g pitch, games get played regularly which keeps the money coming in and it’s a revenue earner during the week.

I do know that former Chairman John Salmon had ambitions towards that aim but whether his departure has changed that idea, I’m not sure at the present time.

Something needs doing because the groundstaff for all the good work they do can only do so much and with Vics using the pitch as well, it’s getting some use. Plus the team would have somewhere to train regularly after Moss farm stopping us using their facilities which again would save money.

Believe that a decent new 3G/4G pitch might well require an outlay of maybe some £400,000 give or take.

In the meantime, in just how poor a condition is the Wincham Park grass pitch just now?

Guessing that the match was off today because of the distance that the opposition were due to travel, and that the weather and pitch conditions weren’t looking too clever late morning.

4g pitches aren’t cheap but grants are available for a large amount of the cost and then the club can start recouping its outlay almost immediately and move forward, instead of struggling with a small budget and compete in the league instead of struggling year after year.
