Thanks for the updates Derek…very much appreciated when you cant get to the game.
Seconded
No problem. Wish the result had been better!
Hard luck Witton.
Not a very good game to watch for a Derby but the better team won on the night and what a great attendance from both clubs.
Another thanks from me for the updates. Noted the crowd was 710 , say we normally get 300 for a night match am I correct to assume there were 410 V*cs fans swelling the gate.?
I believe there were also a number of neutrals as well.
I’d say about 200-250
No complaints about the result. Thought we lost to the better team on the night. We didn’t get a lot of change out of Vics back 4 or make the most of our chances. We had periods when we looked like we could do something just before and after half time, but otherwise the tenants controlled the game for long periods without being unduly pressed. I thought their 2 centre backs especially were outstanding and dealt with every high ball we threw (and continued to throw) at them. We gave the ball away far too easily throughout the game.
Disappointing result, but its early days and not the end of the world - but it does go to show how much we need to improve to challenge with the best in this league. A point I am sure not lost on the management.
Agree that we can’t complain about the result. Best team won. We huffed and puffed but had no real quality at all.
First 30 minutes or so they utilised the big number 9 well (I’m unsure if John shaw would have been bullied so easily) and howard seemed to have as much time on the ball as he wanted. Number 7 swarmed on to any loose balls too and they were pretty dominant.
Whether through tiredness or taking their eyes off the ball we had them stretched for the last 10 mins of the half and Danny should have scored with the goal open after their keeper flapped at a cross.
Second half was more even but we lacked any quality or guile to really cause them problems.
Vics aren’t really that special, solid centre halves, a big well utilised number 9 and dangerous players in nunbers 7 and 10.
One thing I would say is that they clearly did their homework on us as their forwards had a field day in the opening 30-35 minutes. We seem to have an endless supply of support staff and surely we scouted them but we didn’t go at their clear weakness - a short keeper who didn’t take one cross cleanly all night. We should have been firing in crosses from the get go.
Too many times tonight they moved the ball with ease through our midfield, however when they gave roberts any time he looked like a lone shining light. Saturday should be interesting, I believe our opponents have a forward who has bagged a few this year, Jamie something?
Agree with previous comments the disappointment for me was how poorly some of players were on the ball, no lack of effort but little quality giving the ball away way too easily ! losing Chadwick at centre back was a problem also and some of our better players didnt play at all well, we need a mobile midfielder to play with Roberts-who was very good tonight, a pacy winger and unless we find a way to get Cropper and Titch to be more effective ( and it wont be by playing Titch on the wing or in the hole ) then we will need to bring in a striker or two ! what we currently have will be good enough for mid to upper table but I don’t think it will challenge for the playoffs !great work-rate which is nice but the quality and pace just isn’t there. The game overall we did ok I expected to lose to be honest and we ran them closer than I thought we would, we are I know a fairly new side and may still get better but if we don’t make a couple of decent signings soonish then hopes of promotion will be gone.
Many thanks from me for the updates too. I just couldn’t have stood losing to them and being there, I used to love the derby games especially when we won at the Drillfield but I can’t have anything to do with these 2007 shysters who we have let back into town with the groundshare which is surely unsustainable…sigh!
some times its easier to take the result when you watch the game and support the team rather than watch the news feeds - not a criticism but sometimes you just have to take it on the chin - good times and bad times and all that …
I’d have loved to have been at the game tonight even though we lost but I’m stuck in work.
I couldn’t stand going to games against fc with their confused (I’m not sure if I still support united or not!?) fans, but I still went home and away because that’s what we do!
We have to turn up and cheer the lads on, no matter where we are playing or who we’re up against!

You are so right Knutsfordian. I couldn’t be there last night, and I was reading Wheels excellent updates, pressing the refresh button every 5 seconds. However, at the end of the match, I wasn’t sure if Gary Roberts had been on the pitch, and yet this morning I find out he had a good game?.
