To be honest, Gary Roberts name didn’t feature all that often in the information I was getting but there are the things within a game that don’t get noticed. However it did say that the quality he showed at times appeared to be missing from his team mates. I guess the fact that for large parts of the game, Northwich were so dominant had something to do with it.
Gary was our main player I felt, keeping the ball, probing and switching play etc and I thought it was him that put the cross in for Mills goal ? unfortunately his fellow midfielders were not on form and we needed them to be ! The Keeper Roberts and Gards were the other contenders for MOM hard to pick up the flow of the game in highlights. UTA
Again, I was informed it was Jon Dawson who crossed the ball.
Did’nt expect us to win as Vics are obviously going to be up there with a big powerful team and a touch of class with the Howard lad who will do well alongside their big physical players. Shows the difference in class when you can throw money at it and your on a smaller budget like we are. I think the big vics no 4 must have a headache this moning as our play just consisted of pumping high long balls down the middle playing right into their hands. The one time we got round the back of their defence and crossed we scored!!
From what I’ve seen so far we are 3 or 4 players short of a promotion winning team but I was pleasantly surprised that at least we competed and maybe taking all the chances we had might have got a draw so no lack of effort or hard work. Gards was absolutely brilliant in 2 diffrent positions and is a class act for us so I hope these people who keep dragging up his spat with the previous manager get off his back as he’s our best player right now.
I agree with CJ in that currently I would say we are a mid table team. The attack is not quite right, The midfield not mobile enough, and I think we need a good solid left back. I know its early doors still but you can see now that this team will need reinforcements and my worry is will the manager do this as a lot of the change required would mean for me anyway leaving out some of his Norton lads who he is quite obviously friendly with. I’m also worried about the lad Roberts who has been sent off and booked 3 times which obviuosly means he’s going to be missing. Its ok being a good player but its not ok when your going to be sat in the stand suspended half the season.
Not unhappy as yet and I guess we need to review this after 10 games but if we have not improved after that then we do need some fine tuning which I guess is normal for a new manager. The rumour was rife last night that Powell wants to come back. He’s similar to Roberts on the bookings front but he is a class act.Maybe when one is sat in the the stand the other can play instead!!
Just hope that Mr Dundas shows he has the bottle if it does come down to fine tuning and unfortunately leaving some of his friends out of the team.
Anyways onward and upward at least we are not relegation fodder and we do have something to build on.
Strange atmosphere yesterday and today it just feels like we’ve lost a game as opposed to a game against V*cs.
The first time for a very long time that Witton supporters have outnumbered Jim Rushes subjects as well, decent crowd my split would be 400 Wittoners, 150 Vics and 150 neutral or curious local football folk, and just 2 turnstiles to fit them through - bizarre!
They had all the right attributes in a team that want to get out of this division, strength, height, good organisation and pace, it felt a lot like derby days of old, where we were playing a V*cs team from a higher league, and only for some fine goalkeeping and defending we could have been looking at a 4-1,5-1 reversal.
I do worry about the lack of guile again, and in truth Roberts aside no one really caused them any problems, yes there budget is decent, but ours is higher than it was last season by all accounts, and according to the programme we’ve got 11 (Eleven!) people listed as football administration staff, the mind boggles, time was when you just needed Boothy, Murph and an ex player with a sponge to sort your team out!
Anyway from what I’ve seen Mona we won’t get relegated!!! and with a bit of tweaking we could be top 6.
Final note really well done to the players on their fitness levels, that was an awful night to play in just 48 hours after the F.A.Cup game.
UTA
Andy, that’s just how I felt, we had just lost a game not one vs our rivals ! strange that. I say let them stay top until March then pull the plug on the ground share  UTA
Agree with Chad Jr, if we’d have been beaten by Harrogate Railway Athletic I’d have felt exactly the same as I did last night. It’s not really Vics is it…
They were the better side, so no complaints. Plenty to work on but I won’t be panicking just yet, long way to go.
I like to think the 700 attendance was due to my Vic’s v Witton Posters that I designed printed and posted around town no need to thank me, I did this for us all.

Maybe you should of also given a poster to the person who runs the Vics Website as thanks to them advertising the kick off as 3pm there was a few annoyed Groundhoppers turn up to an empty stadium and they were not a happy bunch who didn’t hang around to watch the evening game.
Ps well done on the posters
well done DDT without your posters there would’ve been only 709

In addition to your excellent posters do you reckon you could arrange a small aircraft with a trailing banner over town advertising the game next time? Presumably you have a pilots licence there seems to be no end to your talents DDH bowdown
