Witton face another big game on Saturday afternoon when they welcome Stalybridge Celtic to the U Lock It Stadium in a Northern Premier League Premier Division fixture.
They go into the weekend with a weight lifted off their shoulders, following Tuesday night’s massive but hard-earned result at Ashton United although they left it very late with substitute Rob Hopley’s goal coming in the 92nd minute - there’s never a bad time to score.
The result is a reward for some good performances in recent weeks, that warranted more than they got in previous games but now is the time to push on and build on that in the weeks to come.
Stalybridge arrive at the U Lock It Stadium in fifteenth place in the table and were in action on Tuesday night, drawing 1-1 with Gainsborough Trinity stretching their unbeaten league run to three games.
The reverse fixture at Bower Fold saw the two teams share four goals in a 2-2 draw with all four goals coming in an eventful first half, Callum Saunders netting twice for the Albion before Justin Johnson’s second of the game gave Celtic a point.
With games coming thick and fast in the next few weeks, Witton have the opportunity to move up the table and get away from the relegation zone and with away games at Grantham Town & Nantwich Town on the horizon, every point becomes more important.
Witton have added to their attacking options ahead of the game with the signing of Joe Mwasile from neighbours Nantwich Town.
Tuesday night’s victory surely has given them confidence and a run of results if we play to our potential are not beyond us.
Kick off at the U Lock It Stadium is 3pm.
