Witton Albion vs Winsford United (Cheshire Senior Cup First Round).

Witton take a break from league action on Tuesday night when they welcome neighbours Winsford United in the Cheshire Senior Cup First Round.

The game is Albion’s first in the competition for almost two years, following the suspension of football due to the Covid Pandemic.

The last time we had a Cheshire Senior Cup game saw us draw 2-2 with 1874 Northwich only to lose the tie on penalties so, they will hope to progess a bit further atleast but there are bigger priorities ahead.

A chance to give game time to players who haven’t featured much lately and maybe rest others who have played regularly but, the aim will still be to try and win the game.

Winsford find themselves at the lower reaches of the North West Counties League Premier Division, having lost nine of their fifteen league games so far so, the game provides them with the opportunity to put their league problems to one side briefly.

Witton’s form has improved in recent weeks until the setback at Scarborough Athletic on Saturday but, they find themselves in a far better position than in the last couple of months.

Witton will be favourites of course due to being the higher - ranked team but cup football is all about on the day and form goes out of the window.

Kick off at The U Lock It Stadium is 7.45pm.

I only have one thing to say “play a strong side” Please! UTA

C.J., I don’t think there’s much choice other than play a strong side, we don’t have a massive squad and we are still carrying injuries.

We lost Nick Ryan at weekend so I think we have about 16 players available.
