Witton Albion Women v. AFC Crewe Women(League Challenge Cup Quarter Final)

With the Cheshire Women’s Youth League Championship West title safely locked away in the trophy cabinet, Witton Albion Women turn their attention to the League Challenge Cup on Sunday afternoon when they welcome Premier Division AFC Crewe Women in the Quarter Finals.

Dean Meadows team go into the game as underdogs, something they have been used to already this season when overcoming Newton Le Willows Ladies in a previous round.

AFC Crewe Women are currently second in the Premier Division and have lost only one game this season so this really is the biggest test to face the team this season.

The togetherness and determination shown by the team this season, their first in existence has been wonderful to see and they have let nothing faze them as they have grown each passing week.

Whatever happens in the game, Witton Albion Women have done the club proud and the support they have received has been tremendous and will hopefully continue in the seasons ahead.

Striker Aimee Gibson has been pivotal to the team’s success and the “Golden Boot” winner has led the way although the achievements have been all about the team, not just one individual.

A mixed age group have put Witton Albion on the map in the Women’s game and who knows where their success will take them.

The game will be played to a finish today with either extra time and then penalties or perhaps straight to penalties after normal time.

One thing we can be sure of is that the team will have given everything as they have all season, that little bit of luck that everyone needs from time to time could make all the difference.
