Witton’s Youth team went down to a 3-1 home defeat against league leaders Irlam FC at Moss Farm on Sunday afternoon, in the North West Youth Alliance First Division.

The team put up a great fight against the leaders and had a number of chances during the game but couldn’t make them count. They went in 1-0 down at the break but drew level in the second half through a Ronan Eves header, only to fall behind again almost immediately. Irlam secured the points with a third goal late in the game.

The defeat sees them slip down to fourth in the table, seven points behind with a game in hand. The updated league table now also takes account of the fixture in August when St Helens Town were awarded a “home walkover” from a game that didn’t take place.
