Witton’s Youth team are in cup action on Sunday afternoon when they welcome Timperley-based Unicorn Athletic JFC Under 19s Dragons in the Quarter Finals of the Cheshire FA Youth Cup. The youngsters have done tremendously well so far this season and are now just two games away from the final. Before that, they have the no small matter of overcoming their opponents in the last eight. Should the game be drawn after normal time, the tie will go to extra time and then if the scores are still level, a penalty shoot-out will decide who progresses into the last four. The game is being played at Moss Farm with a 2pm kick off.
Witton’s Youth team progressed through to the Semi Finals of the Cheshire FA Youth Cup on Sunday afternoon, beating Unicorn Athletic Under 19’s Dragons in a close game at Moss Farm.
The hosts dominated the first half and deservedly took the lead, when Robbie Hatton who had trained with the first team this week raced onto a ball over the top on 20 minutes and slotted home with aplomb.
A constant threat from set pieces, Witton should have been at least 2 or 3 to the good at half time as Tom Rushworth grazed the bar and several good chances went begging. They had to settle for a 1-0 interval lead.
The home side made a sluggish start to the second half as the visitors fought back strongly. A quite brilliant save by Albion keeper Joe Walker kept it at 1-0 only for the equaliser to arrive on 55 minutes.
Witton started to assert their dominance in the later stages and as Extra Time looked likely, a corner superbly delivered by Ellis Carter was headed powerfully home from 8 yards by Captain Ronan Eves on 83 minutes.
In a frantic finish the visitors who had reached the Quarter Finals in the last 3 seasons struck the post but Witton held on to see the game out.
Witton will meet Vauxhall Motors Under 18’s on Sunday, March 11th for a place in the final. The Semi Final is away from home with an 11am kick off.
