Evo-Stik Division One North club Witton Albion are pleased to announce that they are to host a number of Cheshire Schools’ FA games this coming season at their Wincham Park stadium, starting on Tuesday 2 November (ko 7.30) when Cheshire Schoolgirls FA U16’s team entertain Greater Manchester.
Schools’ FA Honorary Secretary John Clark said: “The Cheshire Schools Football Association is delighted to have the use of Wincham Park for a number of our inter-county matches this season. We have three teams, under-16’s boys and girls and under-18’s boys, and all three compete in the Northern Counties Championship, which involves playing matches against Greater Manchester, Merseyside, Lancashire and West Yorkshire, with the top two teams going forward to the Semi-Final against two East League teams and then onto the Final.
“Last season was very successful for Cheshire Boys with the under-16’s becoming Northern Counties Champions after beating Northumberland at Blyth Spartans ground, and the under-18’s reaching their Final losing out to Greater Manchester. All three teams also compete in a national knock out competition.”
Albion have at this stage agreed to host three games, with the girls returning on 10 February while the under-16’s boys play nine days earlier.
Speaking for the Club, football secretary Graham Shuttleworth commented: “We’re delighted that we have this further opportunity to extend our involvement as a community club that bit wider and we hope that the Schools FA will continue to flourish during their time at our ground.
“Whilst we only have the three games agreed so far, we are mindful of the fact that a ‘home’ will be required for the under-18’s team and we will work with the Association to do what we reasonably can to accommodate them before the end of the season.
“With our boys and girls junior set-up, the introduction this season of the Mid Cheshire College youth team, and now the Schools FA, we have in place something which everyone connected with our Club can be rightly proud of, be they supporters or officials, and as I’ve already alluded too, it shows our commitment to taking this Club forward as one for the whole community.”
Clark ended by saying: “We are most grateful for the support and interest shown by Mark Harris and the board and by Graham Shuttleworth, and we hope that this will be the beginning of a fruitful partnership between our Association and Witton Albion Football Club.”
Admission to the game will be £2.00 adults and £1.00 concession.
