Witton Managers.

Can anyone give me a list of Witton Managers since 1995 to the present day and when did Mr. Warrender leave us and then ask for his money back?
Just need this info to finish the history of the club at the end of this season. I intend to put copies of the full story in the Museum for people to browse through or even borrow for a small fee to club funds.

Brian Griffiths, Ray Ranson, Brian Griffiths (second spell), Paul Bennett (caretaker),Kevin Tully, Peter Ward, Eddie Bishop (caretaker), Nigel Gleghorn, Eddie Bishop, Terry Murphy (caretaker), Benny Phillips, Brian Pritchard (caretaker), John Davison, Brian Pritchard (caretaker), Gary Finlay, Jimmy Vince, Nigel Deeley, Gary Finlay (second spell), Paul Ogden, Brian Pritchard/Dave Mcpherson (co-managers), Brian Pritchard, Anthony Sheehan, Tony Sullivan, Scott Dundas, Paul Ogden (caretaker), Carl Macauley.

Just the 25 managerial changes.
I knew my cut out and keep guide to Witton Albion managers would come in handy one day.

Didn’t Brad Sandeman also have a brief stint as a co manager with Brian Pritchard.

I can’t remember when Terry Warrender walked away in the Sons of Albion Book him coming in is right at the end. As far as I know he didn’t want any money back and hasn’t had any (unless someone else bought his shares) he just decided not to keep putting in £3,500 a week for players wages when Ranson’s team went down rather than winning the league.

I remember going to a meeting where his wife claimed, (with a solicitor) on his behalf that the money he had given was a loan and he wanted it back. However there was proof that it had been a gift not a loan.

Many thanks for your help lads. Any information on this period would be welcome.

Warrender came in the spring of 1995 and left I think again in the November/December after Ranson resigned in October and it all started to unravel, he was never Chairman in His time that was Doug Lloyd but Warrender was financing and calling the shots.

Really liked Brian Griffiths and John Davison who operated on a shoe string and should have been kept on when Warrender started sticking some money in. I actually spoke with Warrender and told him he only needed to put a £1000 a week in if he’d left Brian and John in charge Ranson was an expensive mistake. Kevin Tully larger than life but to be fair he was always very polite to my son who was little then and myself.Thought we were great with Nigel Gleghorn but only when he played as well. Benny Philips an extremely nice guy and he loved it at Witton and had loads of contacts. Also like Peter Ward although he played a bit too defensively for me. Terry Murphy has always been a steady rock round the club for many years and I respect his knowledge. Paul Ogden very knowledgable and a nice guy but not good on the stress front. Not much I can say about Brian his record speaks for itself and he’ll always be a Witton legend to me. Carl is fantastic doing a fantastic job another Witton legend as far as I’m concerned and long may he continue along with Mr Martingdale fantastic management duo who we need to nurture to take us onward and upward.
Notice I’ve made no comments about Gary Finlay, James Vince, Eddie Bishop,Tony Sullivan, Scott (Mr silence) Dundas, Anthony Sheehan. Basically Anthony and Tony were just out of their depth, the others I simply did’nt like for one reason or another.
Sorry if I’ve trodden on anyones toes just my opinion after speaking with all of them over the years we’ve covered. The trio I really liked going back further was Stan Allan, JD, and my old mate Keith Higgins now they really did know what they were doing granted they were given money but used it well.

The late Brian Booth will always be held in high regard for me.

Thank you for all this, it will prove very useful in completing the Witton Story. Anyone an idea for a title? “A History of Witton Albion” isa bit dry and “Sons of Albion” has been used.

I dont believe Terry ever left us. The last I heard he was still a major shareholder, and most probably our biggest when you take into account his wifes shares. Whilst I was the Financial Director, he also never asked for his money back.

What was the extraordinary meeting I went to where I thought this happened, it was to do with a proposed sale of the ground?

Glad you put me right but I had not included it yet in the history.

WHS how about “Witton Albion - The Wonder of You” ? Just an idea…

I think its Fair to say Terry Warrender resigned as a director ( to protect his other directorships ) but kept his shareholding, however he ceased to be active with the club. The EGM/CVA meeting was an attempt I think to get/block control and reject the CVA but it was voted through and Terry faded away after that meeting as far as I am aware and Mike Worthington and Tom Shaw drove the club to pay of successfully 100% of the CVA and overtime rescue the club.

Cheers for that C. J.
