Well Blatter has gone ? Somebody must have something on him ? Or it’s about to break what he has been doing !
WoooHooo - now there will be some fun !!
I see her is going to hang on for almost another year though.
I am with Colin, I think someone has fingered him
They are mentioning a “smoking gun”…more like a whole smoking arsenal of weaponry…
Well something significant must have happened over the last few days. There would have been as much pressure for him to stay from the associations who voted for him as those that voted against.
The Americans have a system of plea bargaining, so there’s every possibility that one of those arrested as implicated Blatter. Be interesting to see if he goes to Canada for the Women’s world cup. If he does and the Americans have something on him by then, they will surely grab him. Far easier to extradite him from Canada than Switzerland.
I wonder whether Blatter will make a trip to Russia some time very soon…
Maybe our man declining to join the bent beggars had a bit of an effect. FIFA is too flawed to be changed, I still say the European Nations should set up a separatete organisation over which they have more control. It is ludicrous that countries such as Australia and Iraq can easily qualify for the World Cup whilst countries such as Russia and even ourselves fail to. Grading should be brought in like the Champions League, people want to see the best playing each other not Italy versus Iran or Germany versus Afghanistan!#

I think its absolutely barmy that Blatter hasn’t gone today.
FIFA should appoint Prince Ali or an interim president from outside FIFA to manage the transition. How can someone so discredited, along with the current incumbents of the governance roles on the Committee, think they have the mandate to introduce reforms to FIFA before Blatter goes? - its completely bonkers. Blatter (at least) needs to go ASAP - but he just can’t or won’t let go
In any other business a new CEO would be appointed, reorganise the business and be judged on his success. The same should apply to FIFA
The new FIFA President will now either be saddled with a a reorganisation in transition, or the costs of doing it all twice
They just haven’t got it, have they?
Perhaps he was reading this thread.
Presumably they can’t hold a new election just yet because all the bribe money is in a 90 day account.
I think you all underestimate the “Clout” this country has. Our Premier League is the most watched on TV in the world and that means a lot when it comes to advertisers. If we withdrew from FIFA I think it would start an avalanche as other countries followed suit.

Sorry to disagree WHS.
I think our influence in FIFA is in the category of low to none existent. There are too many African countries that still view our colonial past as something to be used against us. Given that countries like France and Spain didn’t even oppose Blatter, there is no chance that they would follow us out of FIFA. I think we would be on our own !
I agree with Knutsfordian on this, England being the first to pull out would be playing right into Platinis and his cronies hands as that’s exactly what they want - I don’t think other countries would follow us either. If countries like Germany and Brazil pulled out first I think many others would then follow including us.
Our league makes us a BIG player in World football, our actions would make a big impact.

…on us and no one else…

The premier league is watched by millions around the world, unfortunately hardly any of those people outside England have any interest in our national side. Why should they? If I followed the spanish league week in week out I would still support England.
I would go as far as saying we aren’t as big a football nation as we are back in the 60’s,70’s and 80’s. You only have to look at the poor performances of the last decade or so and people not being surprised about that. Back in the day people were shocked if we got knocked out early doors, these days its an achievement to get through the group stage.
So like everyone else we do nothing. Nothing will change unless someone takes a lead. Why not raffle the World Cup, anyone who wants to hold it gets put in a big hat and the winner is drawn out, what is wrong with that? You could even regionalise it and put all the Western Europeans in one time, then all the Eastern Europeans another then Asia etc etc. And why not grade the groups instead of having regions. That way the best football countries don’t miss out whilst useless teams get through. But no, that would stop all the bribery and corruption and too many people want that to continue.
