Witton Albion FC should be on ITN news at 10 tonight . do watch it please.
why are we on?
Probably because Vics share our ground!
WHS.
Is it national or just local?
It is national and nothing to do with ground share . :clap
Out rehearsing for a play I am in next month. What was it about?
WHS.
It was about the events surrounding FIFA and it’s effects on grass roots football.
I liked Mark’s comment when he said that clubs like ours have about as much in common with these people (FIFA) as we do the “men on the moon”. How true. It puts into perspective how clubs at our level struggle to pay the bills and last weeks wages whereas people like these are making millions fleecing fans throughout the world for all they can. A world cup in the desert at Christmas time? Bonkers and completely against what fans want. Who’s going to travel there? Not many.
For me there should have been a big clear out at the top many years ago and people with a real love of football at all levels, and in touch with the real world, brought in. Everyone knows Blatter is a waste of space but personally I have a deep dislike of Platini and his anti-English agenda. Him apart I don’t think many of these cronies have kicked a ball in their lives. Says it all really and its a sad state of affairs.
The answer is for UEFA to pull out of FIFA altogether and form a new Association. The sponsors will follow, they know which side their bread is buttered!! But what is the betting Blatter will win another term and UEFA will do nothing?
WHS…
I think he will win because he can carry enough votes from the corrupt nations ! Which just says how bad it is, I tend to gree that e should boycott FIFA until they agree to significant change of the leadership and the system around it.
I’d like to see some of the bigger footballing nations like us, Germany and Italy take the lead and boycott the big tournaments, starting with the euros next year. Its the only way it will start to make any difference. I’ve heard that the major sponsors could already be in as much trouble as Fifa themselves just by association.
If there is to be a boycott of tournaments then it needs to happen as a mass boycott by European countries. If just a few decide to boycott then it won’t get anywhere.
It will if those nations are Germany Italy Spain and England, the sponsors would lose a fortune!! Just takes a bit of guts within the FAs
WHS.
I think there will be a response from Eufa and it will be a big response !
I sincerely hope so. FIFA should be abandoned and a totally new Association formed where the major nations have a real say, after all they are the ones who bring in the sponsorship; no one watches South Korea versus Nigeria but millions upon millions watch England versus Italy, Germany or Spain.
WHS.
Maybe but let’s not pretend that UEFA is squeaky clean either.
Platini endorsed Qatar as the host nation for 2022 and along with the likes of Gill was the architect of FFP which was created solely to preserve the oligopoly of a small elite of European clubs.
In respect of their response to FIFA, European nations should act independently of UEFA and Platini.
I think Eufa is agenda driven and not in touch with real football and at times incompetent FIFA has most of that and endemic corruption but yes take your point, however they are the only ones who can effectively take and bring change.
I believe that England as the inventors of the game have an obligation to take the lead on this issue and announce that if Blatter will not resign they will leave FIFA. Someone has got to show a lead and we are the right ones to do it. My money is on nothing whatsoever happening or changing, Blatter stays, World Cup stays in Russia and Qatar and we get stuffed in the European Championships!!

I tend to agree with you.
I don’t think we can rely on UEFA to make a stand (especially as it is not united on this issue) but I fear that the pressure of sponsors etc will prove too much for the FA.
It would be much more fun to watch England boycott a competition rather than meekly fade out of one.
I cannot remember the last time I was ever proud of an England team or its FA - it would be nice to have a change.
…and I think if we did that it would suit Blatter down to the ground.
Lets not forget about 18 UEFA countries including France, Spain, Russia and whole host of Eastern Bloc countries voted for Blatter, so what good would England leaving all competition do ?
There’s lots of paper talk that France and Spain benefit from Qatar money, so don’t want to jeopardise that relationship. The French FA didn’t even have the balls to support the head of UEFA who is one of their own !! The bottom line is all these countries are looking after their own self interest rather than putting football and decency at the top of the agenda.
If Blatter goes then the lid comes off the bidding process for Russia and Qatar. None of the countries supporting Blatter wants that, in case they lose out - whether that’s contracts or alleged back handers we won’t know until its too late. Then there’s the question of how South Africa actually won their bid. If that comes out as being a result of bribery, the Rainbow nation will be discredited, along with a lot of African nations. Its no coincidence that when the result was announced, there was a long line of African delegates waiting to shake Blatter’s hand and have their photograph taken. They are going to keep the lid on as long as they can, no matter what damage is done to world football.
And things are only marginally better even closer to home. It looks like Wales will take England’s place as a FIFA vice-president -and the Welsh nomination isn’t exactly well disposed to the English FA. Given the furore it seems almost unbelievable that one of our “Home” football associations would step forward. But what price power and a gravy train ticket all round the world? Seems like some of these guys will sell their souls for a seat at the FIFA table no matter what the morality and public outrage.
England are out in the wilderness for years to come. We may have given the world the beautiful game and we may have morality on our side, but we are hated and derided by many international federations.
This isn’t going to change any time soon, so England withdrawing from all competitions isn’t going to achieve anything. Lets hope the legal investigations prove the guilt of those associated with all the corruption, because that’s the only way Blatter is going to get his just deserts.
