Really enjoyed the game some excellent goals and great work from all the players. As for the ref… well I couldn’t stop laughing he should be on the stage with all the prancing about he did, take my word for it he’ll be fast tracked up the ranks because he has all the right moves and poses, the way he sticks his chest out and flings his arms up in the air when he gives a decision had me in stiches.
Fair play to the ref, as Andy says there was no favouritism; he was equally useless for both teams.
As to mannerisms he’s obviously decided to take advice from the true master practitioner of the art;
For some reason I can’t post a hyperlink so go to You Tube and search for “camp football referee”
Dont want to worry you but even the ref’s Assessor said it wasn’t a Penalty! so there is no hope.
I know there’s a long way to go but big thanks again to Gary,Lee and the lads for turning our season around and making it enjoyable to go and watch the Albion again.
I’ve always found it enjoyable watching the Albion !B)
The penalty incident was borderline GBH! I am all for allowing physical shoulder to shoulder contact and players being muscled off the ball but that does not permit being elbowed to the floor. Thomo was not staying down for the sake of hit, he took a hell of a clattering in that ‘challenge’. The irony being that ref awarded a free kick that was arguably more a case of Thomo backing in to one of their defenders. As others have said he was bad for both sides and it was clear he felt we were there to watch him not the teams.
Awesome second half performance from the lads. The biggest difference in the side we are now building is that they have character as well as the strength to compete for 90 minutes. Buxton made it very difficult for us in the first half but we found another gear after the break.
Booth was excellent yesterday, neat and tidy. Black proved again what a handful he can be and his strike was top quality. Lawless was a good choice for MOM and again his workrate in the second half was tremendous. The highlight though would have to be the grin on Mike’s face when he scored the fourth, this man loves scoring goals for Witton and I think he probably enjoyed that one more than any he bagged at Bradford.
Great support yesterday as well behind the goal and good to see a few old faces back on the terraces.
There are only 5 points separating the bottom 9 clubs and that means our job has only just begun regards getting to safety. Play like we did in the second half and we will have no problem!
The second half contained the best football seen at Wincham Park since I don’t know when. Four goals speaks for itself and we went close on a number of other occassions. What we need to see now is that level of aggression, commitment and skill right from the off and we will secure our place in this league. In the process we have a team capable of demolishing sides.
I too enjoyed the look on Mike Moseley’s face when he netted and Neil Black wasn’t far behind in his delight…I feared one of them might have picked up a card from the man in black.
A couple of quotes from the Buxton Forum
first half they hardly had an attack and their 38th minute goal was totally against the run of play. They came back into it for the rest of the first half and the ref totally bottled it (in our favour) when he failed to give them a penalty a couple of minutes after their goal, after Tommy inexplicably gave a Witton player an almighty push in the back (which the entire crowd saw) when he was not threatening one little bit.
Second half - it could have been 6 -1.
Their man of the match was Lawless - had to be, didn’t it.
I will say that this was not the Witton of the first half of the season; they have taken several players from other clubs like Cammell Laird, I believe. They are certainly not relegation contenders if they play like that. Just compare the way they took their chances with how Worksop didn’t, for example. They had very strong support from the sidelines too.
It was an exciting attacking game. Buxton hit the bar (poor Neil Stevens, will he ever score? He’s hit the woodwork before, and had a goal disallowed … and probably Buxton’s best player again). They also had two cleared off the line, including from an Anderson header, and several other near misses. But once behind, pressing forward left gaps that Witton exploited very cleverly.
fair play to them…spot on!
First half hour we looked quite nervous and not able to pass the ball - we finished the game knocking the ball about as well as we ever did last year. The whole team was top draw, but Lawless was absolutely super. Second half he murdered Buxton’e defence.
The progress has been steady since Gary came to us and if we can get a result next week, I think we can start to put some space between us and the bottom 4. That said there is only 10 points covering the bottom half of the table so I don’t think we will ever be able to relax this season.
The best thing though, is the sprit that is starting to grow back around the club. We have a team again - one to be proud of - one to stand up and sing for - one to travel to Boston to be with and know they will give it everything.
Well done boys!!
Fantastic performance and a great 3 points. Played very well and fully deserved the win. Thought Lawless was outstanding and was my man of the match. From 1 to 11 everyone played their part.
Great to have Mose back, took his goal well. The progress we have made under Gary & Lee has been excellent. Really well done lads.
Cant wait for the Boston game now, see you their.
Well done Albion.
