witton 1 -0 buxton ht
HT Albion 1-0 Buxton - Lawless the scorer!
After about 20 mins of second half Albion 2-0, scorer Black
Buxton just pulled one back, so 2-1 to the Albion
Now, 3-1, Lawless with his second
4-1.
Super Michael Moseley
FT 4-1
Does that put us above Buxton?
think they still ahead on goal difference
i hope lawless’s performance today has put those people asking questions about finleys decion to sign him back a couple of pegs.
he obviously is a player with huge talents and fully deserved his man of the match
Talk about a game of two halves.
Buxton on top first half but a superb free kick by Lawless.
Second half there was only one team in it.
Gary’s half time talk must have been a good one.
Very exciting and productive.
Everyone contributed and Lawless was justly man of the match with Neil Black a close second.
Wonderful reception for Mike when he came on and he cooly slotted the fourth.
The ref was a clown.
Well done Gary and the Lads:)
Mike who?
Eeeeeee! Just like the old days.
UniBond Premier Division - Saturday February 14th 2009
WITTON ALBION 4 BUXTON 1
TEAM: Smith; Scott, Pritchard, Booth, Warner; Lugsden, James, Penswick, Lawless (Williams 90); Black & Thompson (Moseley 69). Subs n/u Schwarz & Millington.
Star Man - John LAWLESS - Attendance 380
For the first third of this match, between these two old foes currently placed at the wrong end of the table, it looked to be just a matter of time before the Derbyshire visitors got their noses in front. Time and again home custodian Greg Smith was called into action most notably in the 21st minute when he managed to get his hand to an audacious lob from Neil Stevens to deflect the ball against the crossbar.
John Lawless had sent a dipping shot narrowly over the crossbar in the 13th minute and it was a rare Witton sortie forward in the 39th minute that saw Buxton’s skipper Terry Bowker haul Lee Thompson to the ground. From a central position, twenty yards out, JOHN LAWLESS’s free-kick sailed past the wall and into the top left corner with keeper Scott Hartley totally rooted to the spot.
Thompson wriggled past three defenders before producing a shot that Hartley smothered at the base of the left upright before a minute later somehow Manchester based referee Ryan Johnson ignored an obvious penalty claim when Thompson was elbowed in the back and flattened just before the interval.
Albion came out for the second period far more purposely with pivot Paul Booth and Thompson having efforts saved by Hartley whilst Smith at the other end dealt comfortably with Steven’s shot. They finally got to extend their lead on the hour mark when Neil Black seized on Thompson’s pass and with defenders quickly closing in on him struck a shot into the bottom right corner.
Home euphoria was quickly stifled a minute later as a corner from the left saw Terry Bowker produce a downward header at the far post to give the Bucks’ hope.
Witton’s prodigal son Mike Moseley, re-signed from Bradford Park Avenue in the morning, came on to make his 300th club appearance and was quickly into the action. On 70 minutes a shot from Lawless was diverted onto the crossbar and as Moseley attempted to retrieve the initiative he was fouled close to the touch-line. Lawless aimed the kick goal-wards and right-back Grant Black could only slice his attempted clearance past Hartley.
Moseley then saw his headed attempt strike the post but with five minutes of normal time remaining he calmly seized the chance to capitalise on great build-up play from Gary Scott and Kieran Lugsden to send the ball into the far left side of the net to record his 149th goal for Witton that helped lift his favourite club out of the bottom four.
Well done to the team today, in my opinion a good game of football which could have gone either way, first half belonged to Buxton and to Greg Smith the second after a few tactical words from Gary and Lee (or a b********g) at half time and then a fine performance in the second half. still a lot of work to do but another giant step in the right direction. As many as we can at Boston please for another BIG game with our main sponsor there and the current deal up for remewal!!!

That does indeed put us ahead of Buxton their goal difference was better at the start of the day-its not now.
Good to get some revenge for the play off final last season and more importantly 3 points.
No question Super Johnny Lawless was M.O.M outstanding performance, if we only have a couple of players on contract next season he MUST be one of them as does Neil Black who was everywhere today.
The centre of midfield looked the most solid it has all season though I do still hope we can get Ashley Dunn back as he is quality. Well done James and Penswick.
Don’t know who that guy was who came on for Tommo but he scored a neat goal too.
2nd half was best half of Football I’ve seen from us all season.
Bring on Boston.
Gary Finleys Red and White Army!
Worth every penny of the admission price hey Danny

John Lawless had a superb game and was righfully named MOTM.
Well happy for Mike coming on and getting on the scoresheet, absolute legend.

Lol yeah

We were fantastic today especially in the second half. Brilliant support from behind the goal too (even the blokes on the side got involved!) This momentum we are gathering now is brilliant and needs to continue. Lawless was brilliant today and chuffed for super Michael Moseley grabbing a goal.
COME ON WITTON!
Another good advert for non-league football - Blackie for me was Man of the Match - we are a different team when he is playing.
flickin bril. that second half was the best ive seen us play all season and if marine want to sack more players.Bring them on LAWLESS was brill.
Any doubters should read previous posts, that man is class, but to see Mike score, and kiss the badge,is enough to make an old man happy.
Well done ALL.
Stuart
4 - 1 !!! BLOODY AWESOME! Yet another game i couldn`t get to as i was working. What a result. From what Picko, and Chad have told me it sounds like we played fantastic in the 2nd half.
Great to hear that Mike is back at Witton again, and scoring a goal!
Great 2nd half performance, the work rate and commitment was phenomenal, and especially after extra time on Tuesday, can only praise Lee and Gary for the conditioning
Bizarrely players only playing football in the right areas and getting quality balls into the box at the right time are actually improvements on last season!!!
I also think that the two lads we have had on loan from Fleetwood are as good as any of the midfield players we have seen recently - Rob Lloyd and Alex Brown included.
The back four look extremely solid, and Kieran Lugsden and Blacky never stop running!
Last word for the ref - He wasn’t biased, he was just terrible for both sides, and on what basis he didn’t give a penalty for the ‘assault’ on Thommo I’ll never know!
Up The Albs
