Witton V Eastwood

It was a poor game today but are job was to get 3 points and thats what we did. Was really inpressed with brodie again, proffit was like a differnt player when he came on, never been overly inpressed with him before and of course brown deservedly man of the match. also must mention W.A supports team who as my mrs put it ’ looked well fit’ in there suits. does anyone know the att?

Attendance was just over 400, don’t know if ‘poor game’ was entirely true, not sure why but the game was a little flat both off and on the field today. The supporters expected to win the players expected to win which we duly did without getting out of first gear never looked like losing except maybe the one good chance they had when the score was 1-0, Witton then picked the pace up for five minutes and made it 2-0. 3 points in the bag with no injurys, no goals conceeded and I think again no cards (I missed a few minutes of the scond half)

Yes a little flat I agree, maybe due to not having the drum, a number of "regulars" in suits, no away supporters,a game devoid of nasty cynical fouls, no refereeing howlers, the winning half time draw ticket was the same colour as the one i purchased, must admit I couldnt get wound up.
But put it into context Eastwood closed down very well, they tried to play football when they could, and I think it baffled a few of our players who are used to most Unibond sides hoofing, gouging, play acting and some would say allegedly "cheating". Difficult to get wound up against "nice football".
Hey its another three points, ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Game was played under windy conditions against a physical team.Second half was against the wind.We came away with 3 points and that’s what counts. We can’t win 4-0 5-1 every time. The team did well. Not a pretty game to watch but hey, 3 lovely lovely points in the bag.
Rejoice. ;D

Can’t argue with the above, not the most exciting game ever, but it’s another solid win, that’s four on the run with only one goal conceded, and we seem to have achieved that while still keeping plenty in reserve.

Some flashes of class today, a sublimely judged lob(!) from Thornley for the first, and a nice move well finished by Brodie for the second.

Is it true that our supporters team have stifled their creative musical instincts, have totally sold out to the establishment, and will be passing round the prawn sandwiches (with no crusts) at the next game? Or are we opting for a classier brand of football hooligan?

Wasnt the most exciting game but i think we are forgetting in my opinion how comfortable we were. That lob apart did Eastwood have a noteworthy attempt? They arent the worst team we will play this year but we beat them as mentioned with a bit to spare.

The top of the table is looking quite strong at the moment, will Guiseley do a Telford?

Finally another encouraging gate today, many people questioned it - don’t forget everyone is coming throgh the turnstiles now so its a much better reflection of how many people are there. If you don’t believe the figures turnstile operates are still being recruited!

Lets get there in force on Tuesday and have another 3 points!

‘Flat’ was an adjective I used during the game to describe it, but it was an incredibly comfortable victory, apart from that one break away in the second half which saw a lob which thankfully went well wide. We have to kill teams off properly, not just show by our football that we are in a different class to them, goals are the only things that coun. Was amazed today, Eastwood accepted the defeat from the moment they went behind and played purely to keep the score down, shades of Frickley last season. A very big compliment to us but surely if you are losing then you should at some point make some effort to attack.

Flat or professional?

The scoreline was the same as the Kendal match (who remarkably won 3-1 away at Hednesford), but this was a very different game! That fact we did not play with the same fluency has to also be to the credit of Eastwood. I thought they were difficult to breakdown, they were strong and fit.

This is a game that last season we may have got nothing from, however I think above anything else yesterday we were very patient. We were never put under any real pressure (apart from their striker’s lob when he got in behind the defence)! The good news is that we are learning how to win these different types of games, you always have to adapt your game to cope with the opposition and sometimes the conditions (it was windy out there at times). Also we had no Barras (thought Tom did very well yesterday) and Peers was not 100% fit (despite passing his late fitness test).

Brown was superb again (yes Si he should have got the A+). Neither Lloyd or Warlow are yet at their best, but that will come - I have said before we will plenty of games this season where Adam scores the winner. We need him to be making more runs and being more selfish, last year we fed him the ball and he scored, he does not need to play in any other position than straight through the middle.

Thornley is obviously a fair player, forget his goal it was the footwork and lay-off for the second that was more impressive!!! My only concern is whether he will stay (hopefully after yesterday he is suitably convinced). With his England duties he is going to be away throughout the season and I am not sure it works to let a player wander in and out of the side when it is convenient. I suppose if he is good enough and is a match winner then it may be worth putting up with, we’ll see.

3 consecutive clean sheets and no cards, as I say professional.

The match report on the main page was that good that Eastwood have just copied and pasted it as thiers too!!

It is OK picko, I’ll send them a bill!

;D

I agree with most others, this was a game we would have struggled to win last season. Patience was the key yesterday. Eastwood came with a simple plan… work like hell and chase everything. A very fit side. We took our time and didn’t get dispirited when things didn’t work out. We passed the ball well and had some wonderful movement up front. Adam and Rod Thornley were excellent. The goals will come eventually for Adam if he keeps working like he did yesterday.
The gate was a bit surprising, we seemed to have a lot more at some games last season and the attendance was announced as 289 or 297. Obviously, the new entrance to the clubhouse has worked and we should see more money coming in compared to last year.
Well done to all concerned…see you all at Ossett (can’t make Buxton)

We also had a lot of juniors yesterday, many of them bringing their parents. Neil has done a great job in inviting more junior supporters to the club and this is a long term initiative. We need to continue to do this all season and beyond, the more we attract people into the club the better. Not long before our gates start to overtake our neighbours!

Another 3 points in the bag against a fairly decent team - i’m happy!!
