How pathetic. It’s not the referee’s fault we are bottom of the league. Or has he refereed all our matches this season?

Nah! Just key games in 2008 which might otherwise have been turning points. Under-performance by the players has cost Nigel Deeley his job, but what sanction at this level is there for a duff referee?
I didn’t say he was responsible for us being at the bottom.
During the second half, their number 5 committed three offences worthy of a yellow card and after the last one Mr Edwards blew his whistle and summoned the player to him. The defender didn’t move and after a short stand-off…the ref gave up and carried on as if nothing had happened! That is something I have never ever seen before. Hopefully an assessor would take an equally dim view.

Unfortunately, due to the lateness in the re-arrangement of this fixture, this must have been the first league match this season where the referee was not assessed.
Sounds like there were plenty of unofficial assessors in the crowd!!
What difference does an assessor make?
We get poor officials time after time.
Any ref can get difficult decisions wrong but that number 5 repeatedly stopped our attacks by foul play and it was obvious to all except the *nobhead in the middle.
Even when we got attacking freekicks, which are supposed to give us some sort of advantage, he allowed the defensive wall to be too near.
This is a basic issue which he could have controlled but being an inept, spineless waste of good grub he failed.
We can’t blame referees for our league position but we should be able to have some reasonable level of competence and consistency which the majority of officials notably fail to get anywhere near.
Refs are annoying but do we need to moan about them every week, they are part of football and both teams suffer from a bad ref.
Ironically the Ossett forum hopes for a strong ref as they expect us to play a “physical game”.
