Witton v Matlock

sorry for any cock up neil concerning the updates yesterday.

If you had seen the strength of the Burscough performance against us last Tuesday you might even be saying they are favourites. Telford are not having a "dip" in form, they are collapsing like Newcastle did a few seasons ago, but their collapse is worse. Unless they improve dramatically they might not even make the play offs!!!
WHS.

No worries Lutkie - anyone available for Tuesday or Saturday updates please let me know.

I agree with Robbo, the ability to "win ugly" is vital, the stuff of Champions!
I think Jim and Benny have done a great job this season but I have to ask:
Why don’t we get the ball in the box from every corner?
We saw what can happen when Captain Fantastic got his half chance, and Tony Barras amongst others is an aerial threat.
When we defend corners we look as vulnerable as most teams so let’s attack them at every opportunity and please forget the short corners, we saw two fail in a row on Sat.
Roll on Saturday and let’s not underestimate a team in a relegation dogfight.
Up the Albion!

Dodger, good points, I often curse wasted short corners, BUT…

Pritch’s header on Saturday came from a back-post cross from Brownhill, from a short corner!!!

It worked on Saturday!!!

Well, we were all gutted to have lost that one on Saturday - felt that a draw would have been about right - but it was a classic example of what can happen if you waste your chances.

It just wouldn’t go in for us, especially in the first half, and against good sides like yourselves that can’t afford to happen.

Second half you looked a very good side as has been said, just a shame we didn’t make the most of the opportunities we had to put you out of sight in the first half!

All the best for the rest of the season - hope you go up automatically and that we join you via the play-offs!

Mark, I think your were unlucky not to leave with something on Saturday, having played Hednesford, Burscough and Marine recently in my opinion you have a better side - you play decent football and your attacking play at speed was good to watch (well it would have been as a neutral)! You missed good chances to go in 1 or 2 up at half time at least.

Second half as you say we put you under good pressure for 15/20 minutes although it looked like we would not convert this into a goal. It was not a great Witton performance and we made two full debuts due to suspensions and injuries, this didn’t help us. Recent performances have been better, however as I say you are certainly a decent side.

Every game is a battle at this stage of the season and points are more important than playing attractive football, from our point of view to snatch it 5 mins from time was a relief (as I think you can tell from the posts on here)! Even then you were not far from equalising in added time!

With your games in hand the play-offs looks good for you, yes we are hoping for automatic but you never know we may have to play each other yet! Good luck for the run-in, that is unless we play you

I have to say it but that late winner for pritch on saturday reminded me of the winner for o shea against for the mighty utd against liverpool just a few weeks back, nt only for the emotion and relief felt when the goal was scored but also how important the goal could be in the run in for the title! Lets hope we can follow in this great teams shoes ;)! grinding out results is exactly what champions is made of exactly what plenty of other people have said before! Come on Witton!

How important could this be (from Unibond site):

The Football Association have set the date for Burscough?s appeal against the UniBond League?s Board of Management decision to deduct the one point they had earned in a 1-1 draw against Lincoln United in December. Burscough had played substitute Adam Wade in that fixture when he was not a registered player with the UniBond League. The appeal will be heard at the Manchester County FA offices on 12th April.

Sad for Burscough if they do lose a point, but rules are rules. Neil, I may not be there on Tuesday night, I have some stuff to do that may take some time. I will be at Radcliffe hopefully on Saturday though.
WHS.

Ok no worries - if not I’ll try and get them round to your house.
