Banning may be a bit strong possibly, but surely the club have to send out a message that incidents like this will not be tolerated at any cost, when this obviously gets out on other forums, possible new spectators will given the wrong impression of the club.
I brought my eldest lad to wincham park 2 years ago for his birthday, IF I had have read of an incident like this happening I would have seriously thought twice.
It is a different scenario to the VS 3 or however many, they did not assault any one physically, they spoke out over the ownership.
Grazzer, not going to argue over it with you, the decision over any action will be the club’s and indeed the FA if it comes to that. I hope that we can see some common sense prevail from all parties most notably the individual.
Your point is absolutely right we need to encourage more fans to be bring their lads to games (as in your case), they will be put off by such incidents.
Above all this has to stopped so that we NEVER see a repeat of this behaviour. I believe that all the fans would share this view.
Not going to debate the punishment, the club’s board are sensible and responsible.
We weren’t poor last night be we were naive. The match in my opinion hung on the sending off. Being as how we had someone sent off and that changed the game when we played them at Telford I would have thought that priority number 1 would have been to keep 11 players on the pitch. We all know that whatever the provocation you can’t raise hands or head butt someone and expect not to get red card. Playing against them with ten men was always going to be difficult. I thought Telford were not a very good team but were more "professional" than we were. We have lost some momentum in recent weeks through injuries, suspensions, and losing Benny. I think this has added to the pressure on Jim and you can’t expect Nigel to come in and make a difference straight away. We have got to approach the Frickley game differently. If the boy Kearney is fit he has to come into it at full back as we looked really solid at Hednesford. We then need to go for goals and think about a 3 pronged attack of Warlow, Jones and Moseley. Lets go for bust maybe the pressure is off us slightly now and if we get a result on Saturday we could still do it. Looking ahead I think Jim needs to try and sign an experienced midfielder to be the manager on the field. Someone like Dominic Morley would be ideal to lead our young team onward and upward!! I hope Tony B stays with us as he’s been brilliant all season forget any thoughts of retirement mate! All in all as everyone else has said you’d have been happy with a play off place at the start of the season. It’s just a little frustrating that with a little bit more consistency we might have already won the league going into last nights match. We can’t be over critical though as our lads have give their all and done their best. We have the foundations to build on so lets do that move forward with the team, fund raising and increasing the crowds and if we are not in the Conference North next season then lets make sure we are the season after. Onward and Upward with Vinceio’s Red and White army!! Finally I hope the spitting person has the courage to own up and take full responsibility for his actions. In that way he would truly show he regrets his action and continue to be a fan and be part of our GREAT foot ball club. A written apology to the Ref might be a good idea before this gets to the FA!! I’m sure Graham E could get this to him!!
my stance on the game was that in terms of ‘quality’ witton actually edged telford on what was a very tense match. your lot actually got the ball down, and could string a few passes together - which was exactly what we were doing towards the start of the season. we did not do that too much last night, in fairness. however - at times, our direct play seemed to cause you un-ease with our enourmous gary birch (pretty dire) upfront winning a few flicks.
at the start of the second i thought we were definitely on top, and we created a few good opportunities - especially, obviously, the one where we smacked the woodwork.
i cant see how either set of fans can really complain about any decisions from the referee. thought he was pretty spot on through-out the evening. the two goals disallowed was tough to see from the telford end, but the first definitely looked like the correct decision - whilst the second perhaps a little less so, but still a fair decision.
the red card, i’m sorry, but was a definite red card. if you show any intent nowadays you will be sent off, so yeah, it did limit your chances of winning - but it was entirely your players petulance rather than anything else. our player (foster, i think?) was acting-injured, of course, but however, it was still a fair decision.
thought, over the whole game, based on chancers - corners and who looked the most dangerous we perhaps deserved. its a shame that our goal was perhaps the most flooky and funny that we’ll score all season, but they all count.
good luck on saturday. nice little club you’ve got, and all the best.
Red card was a definite red card, somewhat reminiscent of Ross Clegg’s moment of madness up at Spennymoor. I don’t think we could have any complaints about the result, it was one of those tight games which could have gone either way and we’d all have been happy enough with a late deflection ending up in the Telford net.
One thing in our favour on Saturday, we can’t possibly miss out on promotion on goal difference to Burscough again, can we? ???
The spiiting incident is disgraceful and as I said earlier the chanting by some sections of our support made me ashamed to call myself a Wittoner. I for one will stop coming if this sort of chanting is not stopped by the Club. Those involved should be told in no uncertain terms that it is simply not acceptable.
WHS.
Thought this was a great performance given the missing players and injuries, the turning point for me was mark jones coming on , loads of energy, never gave the ball away and superb cross for mikes header, he surely must start on saturday, also thought kearny was awesome played his heart out, but in fact they all worked tirelessly maybe gaghan was below par but he still got his goal, think tho we will need the big guns back for saturday ? any feed back on injuries and who may be available.
