a very impressive performance, every player that took the field should be commended for their commitment and efort, and the football that was played. very encouraging for the coming season.nice to see boothie back and that goal from danny andrews was something special. COME ON THE ALBION.
Well, I thought that Witton were exceptional last night. They ripped through what was admittedley a fairly young Stoke side but with players who may one day aspire to Premiership football (but not many in my opinion). I wondered before the game whether we would be “chasing shadows” for long periods but actually the opposite happened. When Witton settled down, some of the football was technically very good and some of the goals were also technically very good. Stoke did improve a little in the second half but I’ll bet they got a tongue lashing at half time? Again, you would have expected them to be better than Witton with their first touch (which is what academies practice ad nausium) but not so. In fact if I were involved with that set up I would have been most embarrassed at their performance!
One day the FA (Howard Wilkinson and all) may wake up to the fact that maybe there’s something very wrong with the way the non competitive outlook of these so called top academies are run and also they seem to obsessed on how big a player is (or going to be). (How tall is his dad etc). The fact that a player might not develop into a 6 4 huge muscle bound athletic unit (with the turning circle of the Cunard) determines his future. Not so in my opinion. We should be concentrating on ability just like the Spanish do. After all they did win the World Cup playing football and not trying to out muscle teams.
MOM In my opinion they all did well (Ben, Liam Newman, Booth etc were outstanding) but I’m gong for Dean Ennion. never stopped running, made some good tackles and good passes). Any views out there? SBL
Silent but Ledley, you should be writing in the programme instead of me, brilliant report. I am just worried that the scouts may have been present and we may lose somw players before the season starts. But well done Pritch and Mike, you are certainly good judges of a player, just hope we have the finance to keep them!!

A very telling comment.
Keeping the current squad together is something that will only happen if we can support Pritch and Mike fully. The budget is very tight, and we already have other clubs sniffing around our players.
Not everyone can afford to put their hands in their pockets every week, but there are plenty of things we can all do to help out.
Play the lottery, the golden goal, try and bring a friend to games, buy something from the club shop, or sponsor a player. Support any fund raisers and functions (sometimes just being in attendance is just as important as contributing financially).
It isn’t just the board and management team’s responsibilty to keep this squad together, it is up to everybody who holds our football club dear to them.
This season could be very rewarding. But we all need to muck in to have any chance of that being the case.
5 STAR POST ROBBO
Sad to see matty woods go ? Robbo is right and GE in another thread we need to pull together and sell the Witton name, we cannot go relying on an odd 2-300 through the gate we have to get pritch and mike a better budget, jim vince was good at getting into to the ribs of people who could raise extra funds for his budget, that helped him get a better team ( to be fair he could pick a player ) and this in turn gave us a great team to watch and the gates rose to 4-500 mark that has to be the way surely, we cannot keep cutting the budget we have to give it a go.
Anyway in the wrong section really well played last night, played some good stuff vs a poor stoke side, some great goals too, Titch and Newman look a good pair up front, cant wait for the real stuff to happen hope we can quickly find a left back though.
A quick one from me - yes it is keeping the squad together, whilst I sound like a broken record there are so many unseen and unknown costs which the club has to pay, and without enough support (and I dont mean people just giving money) there is only 1 significant area that can be adjusted.
I would advise people to attend on Thursday night when the Chairman makes his address - if people want details about the finances they are always welcome to come and speak to me or Mark - there are no secrets!
Any incremental income will always go to improve the team as we all want success for the club. Keeping up with your gas/electirc/tax/rates etc and being as fair as possble to suppliers also has to be achieved.
C.J. Stoke were only poor because Witton made them look poor.

On the official match report 3rd para from the end delete them and replace with Tottenham then the report is correct. Ha Ha SBL
matty woods has not gone to droylesden, as quoted by pritch. so once again i say keep your rumours to yourself!!!
It was not a rumour Droylsden had put in 7 days for him apparrently and he had spoken with with them and was deciding what to do, and he was not at Wittons match so not just a rumour plenty of substance but he might not have actually gone yet ? I guess the issue for him is will he be a bench warmer or in the 11, history also shows we do not normally keep a player when a team 2 leagues higher puts in an approach but i will keep my fingers crossed, ps i did not start the rumour on here or at the ground several people linked to the club told me at the match though.
Thought it might be false; who in his right mind goes to Droylsden for ANY reason?
WHS.
unfortunately most footballers nowadays for an extra tenner a week !!!
It would cost a lot more than a tenner for me to spend any time in Droylsden!!!
WHS
Pritch’s quote was actually that Matty was currently still a registered player for Witton Albion and nobody else. He didn’t say that he would be staying - but he didn’t say he had left either.
I think everybody is expecting Matty to leave, but are keeping their fingers crossed that we may hang onto him.
I think you are spot on Robbo with your summary of the situation
The Stoke boys beat Kidsgrove 2-1 yesterday…
