Worksop Town

It’s being reported tonight that Worksop Town might be coming to the end. Apparently the owner and financial backer has left the club, leaving players tweeting that they may well be looking for other clubs next season. Also without the money of the backer, they can no longer afford to pay the rent on their Sandy Lane Ground.

It’s now official on the club website, may take one of the better teams out of the playoff zone, hopefully the albs will be challenging in this area again !

Im not going to shed any tears If they do fold, feel sorry for there real support but unfortunately they attract a young yobbish element who il be glad to see the back of!

Agreed - it’s rarely a nice place to go to in all honesty.

Seem to be a club that has a habit of finding itself in one crisis or another.

A stark reminder of how important it is to balance your books (thanks Neil!).

It’s not a place I’ll miss going to but it’s always a shame to see a non league club going out of business.

Feel very sorry for the true supporters, how many times certainly at this level, do you see a sole benefactor leave and the club is in turmoil, we had that once and financially we have not really got over it. Nice having the success but always there is a sting in the tail.
Neil Wilson works absolutely wonders at our club, why the club has not gone to the wall like so many others I am astounded, our creditors get paid ok may be a delay but they do. Long may that continue.
Back to the subject there are only two grounds that I purposely do not go to, one of which is Worksop, the other I will leave you to guess .
Pity SPS can’t be reprieved as that and Trafford are my two favourites.

As we haven’t had the League AGM yet I’m guessing Stafford Rangers will be reprieved as a result of this and probably Kidsgrove Athletic reinstated in Div 1 South.

And if you mix some of the letters up from Stocksbridge and Trafford…you get Stafford.

Best i can do for you sorry Andy :silly:

The statement says the club has not folded and has no intention of doing so or even entering administration.

I cant see them folding, as the statement says their ex-backer got them on a sound financial footing last season.

So long as they have somebody like Neil Wilson on their committee, who keeps immaculate financial records, all they need to do is review last season’s income other than the money that came from the financial backer. Using these figures, they should then be able to work out a new budget for the coming season, albeit taking into account any other increase/decrease from commercial activities that can be forecast.

They may end up with a much smaller players budget, and as such, a much weaker team, but no need to fold.

Thank god we have Neil!

They have sold their top scorer (Tom Denton?) to North Ferriby

Muldoon to Rochdale

Worksop have resigned from the league, according to the Evo-Stik League website

Apparently the problem is they don’t own Sandy lane and it would cost them £500k to secure the lease. Muldoon had been training with Rochdale since January. Denton is the 6ft7 striker, top scorer was Mettam can’t see him being without a club for long either.

Got that wrong Thatch

Won’t be Stafford who survive though. It’ll be one of the other step 3 teams that was relegated. Means we may see another team moved over to NPL which inevitably will be more travel than it was to Worksop.

The whole non league set up needs a revamp. Getting teams like Workington in the same league as Kings Lynn is madness.

Bring back the old Cheshire League!! (Mind you, Rhyl were in it and so were Bangor I think.)
WHS.

Why do they have to continue playing at Sandy Lane? Can’t believe they havn’t considered ground share.

Think they had the same issues about 6 or 7 years ago? They were nomads for a few seasons, playing at a few different places.

The importance of owning your own ground.

When you read the money that QPR will receive for winning yesterday I makes you sick that local clubs are going to the wall for the sake of a few thousand pounds. If they gave all local clubs £100,000 instead of wasting it on the ridiculous wages paid to Premier League players English football would be all the better for it. In fact forget £100,000 make it a million!!
