World Cup Prediction League

I know this is short notice, but I’ve set up a predictions competition for the World Cup. You can enter this just for fun, or if enough people are interested at say a fiver each I can come up with a couple of prizes and the entry money will go to the Development Fund. Don’t want to affect Jim’s sweep though, so payment will not be compulsary.

Paid and unpaid entries can run alongside each other, obviously if you haven’t paid to enter then you would not be eligible for a prize!

If you are interested, let me know via this thread and I’ll add you to the list of users. Also please say whether or not you want to enter for the prize or just the kudos!

As I said earlier, this is short notice, only a couple of days until the first predictions have to be made, so please let anyone you think may be interested know. You can access the predictions competition via the ‘Interactive’ section of the drop down menu at the top of the screen.

Assuming there is any interest, more details including scoring system to follow.

I’ve now configured the prediction league so that any registered user can sign themself up to it.

From the ‘Interactive’ drop down menu, choose ‘My leagues’ from the World Cup section, then click the ‘Search Leagues’ button. Ignore all the stuff about setting up your own leagues, just click the ‘Start Playing Now’ button and you will signed up to the prediction league competition.

Please let me know via this thread if you have signed up and would like to donate a fiver to the development fund to be eligible for the prizes.

I am up for the fiver, but I am having trouble following the links to “start playing now”. Can you double check them please Mike?

World Cup Sweep sold out, thanks to all that took part, Ill text you your Teams later if required B) , or collect your envelope from JP Ceramics, Cheers!

Sorry Jeff, I had the access set to admins only during testing and forgot to put it back to all registered users. Should be sorted now.

Anyone who is registered on this site can enter the World Cup Prediction League, either just for a bit of fun or if a fiver donation is given, to try to win a prize. Hurry though, only another day left.

Thanks Mike, I have just got into the site, and registered the number of goals for the tournament, the number of yellow cards and the number of red cards. I have also entered my predictions for all the group games.

Is there any ruling on:

a) Changing the predictions (so long as it is before the kick-off date?

b) Leaving the predictions for the later stages of the competition, until we know who are the last 16 teams?

(you can tell that I am a novice in these type of online competitions!)

Count me in if I can work out what to do. £5 when you want it.
WHS.

Match predictions can be changed as often as you like up to kick off time. And of course you wouldn’t be expected to predict for games after the group stage until the teams that have progressed are known. The only real restriction is no predictions for a match after it has kicked off.

Only three of us signed up so far :frowning: . I’m sure there are plenty more Wittoners who would like to join in, and there is no compulsion to pay an entry fee, feel free to play just for fun.

Cannot believe I worked out how to do it!!
WHS.

Started off wit the full 10 points!!! If I win this league I will give £10 to the Development Fund, if I don’t I will give £10 to the Development Fund!!
WHS.

I also correctly predicted a 3-1 win for Brazil, so I also have 10pts.

Well, still only three entries. Andafter the first game I’m in third place! I’ll still stand a prize for the winner, probably be drinkable!!

Still time to enter, plenty of points to play for. I’ll put the scoring system on here later tonight.

Back down to earth tonight. I had Spain to win 3-2 and Mexico to win 2-1. Good night though, as I am sat in a campsite bar in France surrounded by Dutch football fans.

Come on you Wittoners, its great fun, and Mike has worked so hard to set it up.

And I remain firmly fixed in third place, bloody hopeless!

Prediction league scoring system

1: Correct Score =10 Pts

2: Draw, but incorrect score =7 Pts

For example 7 points are given when somebody predicts 3-3 and the match result is 2-2.

3: Correct Winner, but not correct score =5 pts

For example, prediction 4 - 1, actual score 2 - 1.

4: Correct Goals =2 pts

If you predict the correct number of goals for one of the teams, you will obtain 2 points. For example, if you predict 1 - 3, and the actual score is 5 - 3, you get 2 points. If you predict 1 - 3, and the score is 1 - 4, you would get 2 points for correctly predicting the first team’s single goal, plus 5 points for predicting a win for the second team, ie. 7 in total.

In addition to the match predictions there are bonus points for the following predictions which have to be made before Sunday :

Total number of goals score =50 points.
Total number of yellow cards = 25 points.
Total number of red cards = 25 points.

All results so far have been entered and processed. The first four games of the next round are now entered and available to predict.

Sad so few have entered. May I suggest an each way wager on Belgium?
WHS.

Results up to date now, sorry for the delay entering the last 4 games. All the quarter finals are now available to predict.

Just wondering where the hundreds of people who entered this competition finished with their predictions?

Think I probably finished a creditable fourth. (Out of four!!). Good luck tonight lads, enjoy the sunshine.
