CYC 4 Week Workshop Complete
On Wednesday 15th July, Witton Albion In The Community completed a 4 week workshop with Cheshire Young Carers delivering football sessions at Witton Albion FC aimed at encouraging participants to engage in physical activity thus encouraging a healthy, active lifestyle.
Cheshire Young Carers deliver a range of services to support young carers and deliver those services with a well-trained voluntary workforce. A young carer is a child or young person living with a parent or a sibling with a disability and/or illness. This can be anything from mental ill health, substance misuse or physical illness. These factors can impact on a young carer’s development, health and well-being.
Robert Berrie, Programme Coordinator at Cheshire Young Carers had this to say:
‘With the support of the team at Active Cheshire we had been put in touch with Witton Albion In The Community to explore and develop a number of sports workshops for our young carers in Northwich. The team at WAITC were very supportive, working with us to develop workshops that would meet the needs of the group, provide them with the opportunity to get active whilst developing team and communication skills. All this was done through a range of sporting activities delivered by WAITC Project Manager Alex Titchiner.
Each of the 4 workshops has promoted the benefits of being active and taking part in regular sporting activities. WAITC were very responsive to the needs of the young carers and as a result of these sessions, additional opportunities are now available for those of our young carers who are keen to become involved in both WAITC and Witton Albion FC.
I’m looking forward to working alongside Alex and the team at WAITC in developing more opportunities for the young carers going forward.’
WAITC Project Manager Alex Titchiner was delighted to welcome the young carers to Witton Albion FC:
‘It has been an absolute pleasure working with the Cheshire Young Carers during the 4 week workshop, in which they all showed a tremendous attitude to engage with what we put together. I’d like to thank Robert and the CYC volunteers for their assistance in the delivery of these sessions. A huge thank you must also go out to Active Cheshire for making the introduction between CYC and ourselves which allowed us to make this happen.’
