Albion v FCUM

What an excellent way to spend an afternoon.

Both teams played some great football and the match was played in a good atmosphere. Really good to see Wincham Park full of people and noise and a very healthy attendance of just over 1000 will boost the coffers after weeks of inaction.

I’m still breathless after all the fun but my first though has to be; if we can beat Marine and FCUM in successive league fixtures to take 6 points then we really don’t have to fear anyone else for the remainder of the season.

We’ve all had to wait an awfully lomg time to see the team deliver the goods at home…but they did in some style.

More when I’ve recovered!

Well done Gary and the Lads

Just an excellent afternoon all round!
We just need to keep this momentum up. Support today was fantastic from behind the goal. Thought Blackie was extremely lively today and the team battled hard when we needed them too. It’s about time we got some luck!!!

Totally agreed I took nearly 100 photos and am currently uploading them to flickf, I will post the address when done

money well spent and the FCUM fans were a credit to themselves BUT

why cant they adapt their songs, surely Red army could have been Blue army, and when the Bules go marching in doesnt really detract to far from the original. . . .but please lose the Busby stuff, I have every sympathy but it is time to move on especially for those who werent even born at that time… .
still best part of £10K and 3 points

Great game ! Good advert for non-league football !

We were a bit fortunate but as John Powell said to a couple of FC fans on the way out " we needed that win more than them ". Blackie and Thommo were superb up front and the rest were not far behind.

Onwards and upwards !

had to change my user name , couldnt log in I logged onto fc utds radio broadcast on the tinternet. as im away in bucharest… Fantastic result proves we are on the way back , and have a couple of decent wins under our belt. I think their supporters were not aware of how much we have improved since we met them as they thought it was 3 points in the bag, down to earth with a bump for them as they now start to meet “pedegree” non league clubs who wont roll over . I think they will struggle second half of the season.

Is that 3 league wins on the spin now?!

I just want to say a big thank you to all the UNPAID helpers we have at Witton Albion, to get todays game on was such a massive boost for the club, the players responded to that effort and ran themsleves into the ground, yes we had a bit of luck but lets face it we were due some! last word to The FC United supporters, well done to you all a credit to your club.

What a great afternoon!

Thought the players give it everything. It is about time we got some luck.

Onwards and upwards !

What a Day Well done to all involved:lol:

worth a visit for a rare report from Andy Simpsom if just for the comments at the end alone! http://www.northwichguardian.co.uk/witton/wittonmatchreports/4073922.Witton_2_FC_United_1/

what was he doing at wincham park, he is usually at v#cs away matches,

We even had the Chronicle Sports Editor behind the goals and really showing his true colours

Thrilling second half full of drama, we showed great character for the full 90 minutes and that is what got us the result. Whilst the 3 points were arguably a ‘smash and grab’ at the end, we had opportunities earlier on in the half to win it. Black’s missed chances and a rebound that Thomo could not get too would have all put us ahead, when we failed to take them it was inevitable that FC would up the pressure and we had to weather the storm.

When Lugsden put the free kick in for the goal I think a few people sensed that we might just have one more chance to win it and so we did. Pritch didn’t connect well with his shot but the fact that Black was there to bundle it home showed his effort throughout. Would have been interesting to see whether the ref would have given a pen had it not gone in, he looked to be brought down from behind in their attempts to reach the ball.

Yes we rode our luck at times, but we have had very little of that this season and it is about time we had some. The fact is we never gave the game up, we battled and worked hard. We also played some neat football coming forward at times. I thought Lugsden did well, although looking tired after the hour, his set piece deliveries are good. Warner also impressed, great cross from the left and superb corner that followed.

We still have a lot of work to do but with 9 points from 9 since boxing day we have given ourselves a real chance, this is perfect timing to put a run together that hopefully can lead us to safety. Marine went fourth yesterday beating Hednesford away and FC could have gone into the play-offs with a win, that means we should fear no one, the team and attitude now is comparable/better to those teams at the top of the table. All that matters for us now is points, it is about closing down opponents and killing off games.

Certainly good value for money yesterday and an exciting game for the neutral.

Would it be unfair to suggest that the Guardian’s report has an undercurrent of disappointment that FCUM didn’t do better?

Well we can hardly expect glowing write ups when “their” team is langishing at the bottom of their league, and prob in freefall to lower depths. but thats another story.
To be honest ,
I was listening to the match on fcutd radio, very biased as you can imagine,
I dont care how we win at the moment , how many times have we played brilliant football the last 2/3 years and been beaten by a deflected shot , or a long boot up the field, and who walks off with 3 points then? It seems we are learning to be ruthless and ride our luck , long may it carry on

After the game, the officials (and the referee’s assessor) all agreed it would have been a pen on Neil Black. Good bit of advantage played ref!

What a great result and great performance!. Cant say a big enough thank you to Gary and Lee for turning our fortunes around. I said to them yesterday that after these two results we should fear no-one just keep on doing what we are doing. How good it is too see the players playing to the end never giving up Well done lads. Its seems a long time since we have had something to feel good about.

Up the Albion

On the subject of match reporting etc and after reading the printed version in today’s “The Non-League Paper” I really think I need to post my exact article that was submitted to them around 6pm yesterday.

WITTON ALBION 2 FC UNITED OF MANCHESTER 1

att. 1,030 Entertainment 5/5 Star Man Brian Pritchard (Witton Albion)

In a pulsating encounter Albion finally laid to rest their wretched home league form that had seen them lose their previous seven matches at Wincham Park. In all fairness though the win came courtesy of goals in the last minute of both halves whilst FCUM, for whom victory could have given them a play-off position berth, cursed the woodwork on at least five occasions.

The opening 20 minutes saw the visitors, roared on by over 600 travelling fans who were enjoying a rare Saturday away match, take the game to Witton and it needed a deflection off skipper Brian Pritchard’s knee to stop them taking the lead. In a rare Witton attack FCUM keeper Sam Ashton was mighty relieved when his attempted clearance was intercepted by Neil Black but the striker just unable to keep the ball in play. On loan Ashley Dunn produced a great attacking run in the 32nd minute but his decision to shoot when support players were well placed gave Ashton an easy save.

The crossbar then came to Albion’s rescue as Rob Nugent headed in from a corner-kick. Two minutes from the interval Witton left-back Danny Warner produced a brilliant cross from the left that needed a timely header at the far post to concede the corner. However Warner ran across to take the flag-kick and superbly picked out LEE THOMPSON who headed powerfully past Ashton.

Ten minutes into the second-half it was the woodwork that this time denied Albion extending their lead. Kieran Lugsden picking Neil Black out only for his headed attempt to rebound off the top right-hand angle. Just two minutes later the gathered hoards were in full voice to acclaim TRISTAM WHITMAN’s equaliser as he seized on space afforded him and from a central position advanced before prodding the ball past the advancing Greg Smith.

The League’s leading scorer Kyle Wilson, a player at Witton 12 months previous, saw his effort on 71 minutes strike the left upright before rolling right across the goal-line and out at the other post. 11 minutes later Whitman was denied his second of the afternoon when his shot crashed back off the upright.

In the final minute of normal time a crude foul, near the right touch-line, by Dave Neville gave Kieran Lugsden the opportunity to hit the subsequent free-kick deep into the area and there was NEIL BLACK who, although looking to have been fouled, had the presence of mind to stick out his foot with just enough contact for the ball to roll ever so gently over the goal-line to send the Wittoners into raptures. They then had to hold on throughout the six additional minutes to record a great victory in their quest for Premier Division survival.

How good does it feel to be out of the relegation places? A massive win for us yesterday considering we at eastwood next week. A special mention to thommo and neil black who both worked none stop through out the ninety-six minutes. Can anyone confirm whether our subs were match fit as gf seemed reluctant to use them. This not a crititism of gf just a query. It was good to see a good crowd even though we were out numbered i told my mate( who was made his 1st visit to wp) this was how it used to be. More perfomances like the one yesterday and them days will return.
