Chadderton FC v. Witton Albion.(Emirates FA Challenge Cup Extra Preliminary Round)

Witton kick off their campaign on Saturday as they did twelve months ago with an FA Cup tie against North West Counties opposition.

A year ago they faced Cheadle Town and came through that quite comfortably, winning 4-1 at the U Lock It Stadium.

A trip to Chadderton confronts Ben Harrison and his team this time around, the first-ever meeting between the two teams.

Pre season has gone well for the Albion, the management team appear happy with the squad they have assembled, retaining the majority of last season’s squad has certainly helped and there have been a number of new additions.

Chadderton have already begun their season with two league games under their belts and four points on the board.

A point at Charnock Richard last weekend followed by their first win of the season in midweek, beating Abbey Hey 6-2 so it will be a test for Witton.

It was thought that by finishing eighth in the league last season, we wouldn’t have to enter the competition at this early stage but we are where we are and will look to progress into the next round in two weeks time.

A home game against either Stockport Georgians or Nelson awaits the winners.

Chadderton midfielder Ben Lowe is the connection between the two clubs, he was on target for Cheadle Town in last year’s cup tie at the U Lock It Stadium and later joined Witton and is likely to feature in the game either from the start or off the bench.

Kick off at the Emplas Commercial North Stadium is 3pm.

Seems strange to be opening the season with an FA cup game!

But looking forward to it, great to be back!

Team wise getting hard to pick but If all fit, I’d go 4 4 2 using Edwards a more a third striker and the other midfielders in a 3!

Some good players on the bench: Rutherford, King, Lawrie, Hooper, McDonough, Steele and easy to pick others in the 11. Good problem to have.

Terry

Orhenomare, Ebhote, Bembo-Leta, Sotona

Hamman, Holmes, Kerr, Edwards

Garbutt, Edwards

Good luck lads. UTA

Very strong squad, lots of creativity and goal potential, solid looking defence and midfield.

I will settle for a scrappy 1-0 win if that is what it takes, it look likes Ben and his team have assembled a very confident and proven squad.

Lewis Crane is also up for consideration.

Of course and I understand Tom Hoyle is missing 2 games?

So he might be playing today unless we go 4 3 3 with wingers upfront with Freddy!

I was under the impression that Tom Hoyle was injured anyway and it’s not clear when his suspension starts.

Witton team news & latest score updates will appear here as and when they become available.

Team news: Wade Rutherford, Ben Holmes, James Steele & Ollie McDonough all make their debuts. New signing Lewis Crane is named amongst the substitutes. Danny Kerr and Tom Hoyle are not involved.
