City of Liverpool FC v. Witton Albion

Witton bring the curtain down on the regular season on Saturday afternoon, when they take on fellow play off hopefuls City of Liverpool FC in the final Northern Premier League West Division fixture.

The two clubs season has run parallel particularly in the second half of the campaign, both teams had an indifferent start which saw them sit fifteenth and sixteenth respectively in the first months.

Witton have been on an excellent run which has seen them win their last five matches in all competitions but this game has so much riding on it.

City of Liverpool FC have got themselves in to a similar position and will also be looking to finish the season strongly.

The two sides have met twice already this season, with Albion securing the three points in the return meeting at the U Lock It Stadium whilst City of Liverpool FC ended Witton’s involvement in the Isuzu FA Challenge Trophy.

Witton have the chance to complete the league double over their opponents but the prize for victory is much greater than just the points.

Win and Albion make the play offs, a draw maybe enough depending on Bootle’s game at relegated Hednesford Town but the lads will be wanting to make sure themselves and not having to rely on results elsewhere.

Whatever happens the season has been a tough campaign and it all comes down to one game if the season is to be extended.

The team have given everything throughout the season and they need the fans to give them that extra push if they are to achieve their ambitions.

The game is being played at Vauxhall Motors with a 3pm kick off.

Witton finish sixth and miss out on the play offs on goal difference.

We scored more goals than three of the teams that have made the play offs.

Proud Wittoner today. By far the better team however it wasn’t to be.

Thought their two centre halfs were excellent. MOM for me Newell again, need to keep hold of him.

If you’d have said after the home game against Vauxhall just before Christmas, we’d have missed the play offs on goal difference I’d have said never in a million years.
