Witton face another big test on Saturday afternoon when they travel to Clitheroe in a Northern Premier League West Division fixture.
The Blues go into the game in seventh place in the table three points behind the Albion but with a game in hand.
Witton start the game in fifth place following their defeat to Prescot Cables last weekend and also because Bootle overtook them in midweek, ironically by beating today’s opponents.
A big danger to the Albion’s ambitions in the game is Clitheroe striker Sefton Gonzales who has netted twenty goals in all competitions.
The two clubs respective records follow similar patterns with Clitheroe’s home record of five wins, three draws and five defeats so far.
Witton’s away form has seen them win five, draw three but suffer six defeats ahead of the weekend’s games.
The return meeting earlier in the season saw the
Lancashire club edge a close game at the U Lock It Stadium, John McGrath’s goal sealing the points in the dying minutes after Tom Pope had given Witton the lead.
Billy Priestley cancelled out Albion’s advantage with fifteen minutes to go.
With teams below Witton creeping up on them and with games in hand, a win is crucial for John Macken’s team in order to continue their race for the play offs.
Kick off at the EcoGiants Stadium is 3pm.
