This section of the forum has been added after tonight’s meeting about the commercial side of the club. It will be used for disseminating and receiving information, and is open to all Wittoners, not just those who attend the commercial meetings.
Good god mike that was quick! Have those minutes come through yet?
On a serious note - for other people reading this Wayne Peach is making a concerted effort on the commercial side, he very approachable so give him your full support where possible.
I don’t even know what Wayne looks like. Could he introduce himself after Saturdays match utilising the Mark Harris slot? Just an idea and not having a go here! I will sponsoring the game along with 3 other Witton fans so no doubt will meet Wayne anyway butI’m just think some other fans might not no who he is anyway!! Think this seperate slot for commercial stuff is a good idea too!
Hi All, Thanks to all who attended last nights Comm Meeting, great ideas and passion for the continued progress of our club. I will be in contact asap to discuss our action plan. Any fans who require any info re Comm prices, what the work party are up to or would like to lend a helping hand then please contact me on 07931816236.Thanks again for your support. Witton Albion a team built on local support.
I’d like to see this topic kept red-hot. Perhaps Wayne could give us at least a weekly update on activities to include this weeks match/ball sponsors? (I’m sure they would appreciate an extra mention on the web-site) Also, progress on player sponsorship - are they all covered? Thinking particularly for those of use that can’t attend games and get to see the programme.
Was any progress made on making the programme a postable subscription service. It was suggested some time ago. I would certainly subscribe to such a service, or is it too difficult to put the programme on-line, even if it is a couple of days after the match so as not to hit match day sales?
There are plans to give coverage to sponsors / advertisers on this site, and also to get some coverage of the programme on here. Will be happening soon.
Good to see this website is doing a better job of recognising current sponsors than the offical site…
Hi All, just got minutes from last weeks meeting and will be speaking to work party to delegate the points raised last week. Will give updates as and when there has been progress (hopefully regular ) main focus is to fill any form of sponsorship asap whilst working together to improve communication and working on new fund raising ideas.I will provide a list of what we are working on so fans can suggest other areas that they think we should consider Eddie C if you would like me to arrange a programme of every home game to be posted to you then please give me a ring 07931816236. Thanks for your support.
Thanks Wayne, I’ll send you a PM with my address
Hi Eddie C ,I will update asap. Thanks for all your support. Wayne Peach
Really disappointed that the club is having a match sponsored by Coca Cola. Did anybody at the club see ‘Despatches’ on Channel 4 last Wednesday? I find it hugely ironic that one thread of the web is discussing a schools competition whilst the club is promoting one of the most unhealthy brands available, quite apart from the serious ethical question marks that have been asked about this very unattractive company. I appreciate that Witton ‘needs the money’ but someone in the club needs to ask, do we need it this much?

The ‘Official Website’ just seems to get worse. Why can’t we just scrap it and join the 2 websites together?! The articles on there just seem to be lifted from the Guardian, and the frontpage photo is a great advertisement for LAST SEASON’S kit sponsor! If i were Jack Richards i would be very annoyed.
The Official Website will be most people’s first impression of our club, and it hardly gives off a professional image.
If we are looking to improve the commercial activity of the Club, then let’s start by getting the foundations laid!!
Si, Mike, etc have done a great job in making this site better. We don’t need 2.
(on a side note, Tamworth’s site is excellent!)
I personally think its great that we have got Coca Cola to sponsor one of OUR matches! This is a hell of a lot better than we would of had before! People complain about the lack of sponsorship the club is getting and then when we go and get not just a locally recognised sponsor but a GLOBALLY recognised sponsor then people shoot it down saying its ‘unethical’ and all this rubbish! Fact is be happy that Wayne and his wee work party are actually getting the much needed sponsorship money and not only just settling for local revnue streams! I hope you have complained about the coca cola sponsorship of the football league system aswell as this more likely to have an ‘ethical’ effect than any other!
Nothing personal Chris but it just totally hacked me off how as soon as our commericial work party makes progress that they get shot it down its just wrong! Well done to whoever was involved in getting coca cola involved as this can only be good income for the club!
Having myself been on the receiving end of a ‘Despatches’ report I know for a fact how they tend to edit and add whatever makes a story, unfortunetly a lot of people that watch telly believe every word is fact and it is very difficult to prove otherwise because putting the truth forward as a defence dosen’t pull in many viewers. I wonder if Channel 4 will turn down the advertising revenue that Coco Cola will provide them with this Christmas?
…and besides Greenpeace don’t have a big non-league football sponsorship budget!!!
Yeah totally agree we need as much sponsorship as possible and to turn some away because of ethical issues is crazy. Chris all large succesful companies like McDonalds, Microsoft, Wallmart, BEACONET!!! exploit people/communities in some way or another but also employ a vast number of people across the globe keeping them from poverty!
What really would be achieved by us not taking thsi opportunity? NOTHING! it wouldn’t make news anywhere and Witton would have lost out on a decent chuck of cash that while no doubt small change to someone like Coke-Cola is a great lifeline to someone like us!
GREAT WORK WAYNE PEACH! Any chance of getting Magners to sponsor the next game? with a few free samples for us fans? ;D
On the ‘official’ website front I think it has improved over the last few weeks but agree that having 2 is a waste of time for a club like us. One feature I would love to keep should we merge the two is the video highlights of each game for someone like myself who doesn’t live close by and can’t get to every game, these highlights are great to see what I have missed.
I’m not sure that we should simply accept the view that we should accept money from anywhere. Would we accept money from Connett’s companies? What if the Taliban got in touch offering us a few quid to have their name in the programme? I accept that refusing money from the global companies which rip off half the world in order to make money in the other half would be no more than a gesture on Witton’s part, I’m not suggesting we turn the Supporters Club into an anti-globalisation pressure group. However, I hope that there are moral standards which can occasionally take precedence over financial ones. If we are aiming to be the ‘family club’ of the town and promote ourselves in primary schools etc, shouldn’t we be looking at which companies we associate ourselves with? Perhaps a well placed article in the press explaining why Witton doesn’t take sponsorship money from companies that damage children’s health might actually win us more friends in the community (amongst the tree hugging liberal part of the community perhaps - but there are plenty of them). All the best tonight - I will be on-line.
I have to admire the colour scheme of Coke’s packaging though…
I kind of take your point Chris but please don’t shoot down any of the people working very hard to raise money for the club - to even get a sponsor for the Ferriby game is an achievement given where we were just last week. That cash is absolutley crucial if we have any desire to do anything this season. Absolutley crucial.
There are other companies who have sponsored us in the past - that never bought us any bad publicity ie McDonalds, Bargain Booze and I know we’d have them back in a shot if we could.
To be honest, companies such as McDonalds and Coca-Cola do have VERY big tie-ins with the footballing world. I think both companies are offical partners of the FIFA World Cup.
