Feel free to share your favourite Albion games and memories (Wembley is not allowed!)
As a relative youngster, I’ve only been watching Witton for about six years. In no particular order:
March 2008 - Gateshead away 0-2: Left school early get on on the players/supporters bus. We must have taken around 100 there on a Tuesday night and left third-placed Gateshead with the 3 points. The journey back was full of optimism of Conference North football… Wasn’t to be though was it.
October 2011 - Altrincham away 0-2: It was a lovely autumn day, we took good numbers to Alty and knocked them out of the FA Cup. Great finishes by Titch and Buchan sent the Albion following into raptures! B)
January 2009 - FC United at home 2-1: Pretty sure we were almost bottom for this fixture, the days of challenging for the Unibond Premier title were long gone. This 2-1 win in which FC hit the woodwork about 7 times seemed to spark a mini revival under Gary Finley, however we lost form and ended up getting relegated
The FCUM game i think we went 1 down and won it 2 - 1 late on with a ball just about rolling over the goal line?
Alty, yes defo.
Stamford away in the trophy under the snake - what a day that was!!
Whitby away 6 -1 (and even Dean Crowe scored!).
Any win against Vics of course! One of my faves was the game when we beat them for the Mid Cheshire Cup 4 - 3 i think it was. Daryl Dicken roasted them! Also as a young lad watching us win 1 - 0 at the Drill Field the Christmas we went down from the Conference.
Ah it was 2-1, I’ve tried to blank basically everything from that season from my memory apart from… erm… Yep, everything. What a terrible year that was!
Without doubt 6-1 win at the original “swamp”! Remember my hero Peter Mellor having a stormer and our friend Tick-a-Tick tearing them apart. Can’t remember the scorers (help big Chad?) but must have been circa 1966?
If memory serves me right, it was 1st October 1966, and our scorers were Tynan (2), Taberner (3) and McDonald. Both teams were doing well at the time, so it was forecast to be a close game, Vics manager thought he could exploit some Witton weaknesses … the only weakness we had that day was easing up a bit when it was 6-0!
Still my favourite game, but beating Halifax away in the FA Cup was good, and Alty away last October was the best for a long time. But does anyone else remember beating Buxton at the Central Ground, maybe 1964 or 65, we were 4-1 down at helf-time, then attacked the Tabley Street end in the second half, and won 6-4, with Paddy Daly scoring a hat-trick from the penalty spot.
Good knowledge there LS! Just about on the extremes of my memory with '66, so don’t specifically remember the Buxton game, but Paddy Daly…now there was a player.
Agree Alty was a cracking day and also when we scored against Barrow was a highlight (what followed wasnt great) but that moment alone sent the albion supporters wild
Hednesford away a few years ago sticks out with a last minute peers winner which put us top of the league.
Still gutted i missed the Gateshead away game although i did go the year before and watch us get beat
By far my most memorable game was in the quarter finals of the FA Trophy against Wycombe Wanderers back in 1992.
Before the game, I was showing somebody the facilities at Adams Park, when I happenned to pass Martin O’Neil talking to his captain outside of their dressing room. They were discussing who they fancied playing in the semi’s, and they hoped for Marine! Further down the corrider, I bumped into Pete O’Brien, and I told him what I had heard. Pete thanked me for that as he used it in his pre-match team chat to get our players going.
We went onto to win the game and beat Marine in the semi’s.
We cleaned out an off-licence as we left Wycombe on our way home. I don’t think anybody sat down on the coach, as everybody danced and sang our way back up to Wincham. We got home at about 10:30pm to be greeted by 300+ fans waiting to celebrate with the players as the got off the team coach.
I love this thread, too many games for me to choose from I am so old! Loved the Ken Barnes team, they were dead unlucky at Bradford in the FA Cup, losing 3-2 after being 2-0 up, but they always played some great football.

My Dad has the newspaper cutting for this game, i’ll dig it out and post full details.
Another great memory is a 2-0 win away at Whitby and a great away following, a whitby supporter (who looked like elvis)was kicking off at the Albion faithful to keep the noise down. So we gave him a chorus of ‘Elvis lives in whitby’ Great chant!
i’ve following the albion for 22 years and counting and my fave games are
wycombe fa trophy 92. for those who have the video thats me whos got hold of karl thomas all the way back to the halfway line after he scored
the second of the semi v marine. I remember some witton who i never seen at a match before or since for that matter say “there will no scousers at wembley” i said " yes there f!“£$%^ will be”
Away day at Merthy Tydfil and St Albans and especially slough
back to back cheshire cup final wins in 95 and 96 v alty and hyde. alty was the first time i saw witton win a trophy. Even though alty fans tried to spoil it by storming the pitch to get to us
But probably the best performance by a wiiton team was v whitby when we beat 7-2 a couple of years ago. I swear the football we played that day some football league clubs wouldnt of lived with us.
Remember beating Vics at Winsford in a Cheshire Senior Cup Final I think; we took toilet rolls to throw but when we got the penalty that sealed the win we forgot to throw them!!
