And why?
Current or past JT?
Current team : Gards followed closely by about 10 others lol
Past teams : Dave Carrick followed closely by about 50 others
Both if you like
You havenât said why CJ
Gards for his 100% commitment and dedication . Past players - Keith Mason and Darren Washington ,ditto .
UTA
Current - Rob Hopley for his goals and work rate.
Past - Mick Kilduff just for being âKillerâ, deffo someone you wouldnât want to meet down a dark alley. Also Mark Edwards, probably the classiest striker Iâve seen for Albs he could score from anywhere.
Gards, because he gives everything, dedicated and I just like his all round style as a fullback, gets forward at every opportunity but rarely caught out of position it is really not easy to do week in week out.
Dave Carrick - shear ability on the ball and he made the fans smile and played with a smile on his face, I can still picture his smile now after scoring a brilliant overhead kick at the central ground, lovely to watch.
dave esser and tommy smith were a brilliant partnership
Current- Has to be Rob Hopley, all round ability both in the air or on the ground is excellent.
Past - Where do you start so many to choose from. If pushed I would choose two . Firstly Mark Fielding ,an absolute brilliant full back , very tough player who at Nantwich years ago scored an absolute screamer which as a young lad always stuck in the memory.
Secondly Andy Grimshaw, the complete midfielder, great workrate ,skillful, scored goals and knew how to tackle. My player of the season in the year we won the league.
Current player Tom Owens may not be the most skilful, but in terms of never give up attitude and 100 % effort,
past have to go for the reason why I fell in love with witton when my Dad brought us down for the first time and saw the skill and wizardry of Paddy Daly bowdown
Past - Dave Carrick, he could do practically anything with a football. I love players who excite and I also loved watching Joe Connor & Danny Andrews.
Current - Havenât seen many of the present team. Anthony Gardner determination & effort.
Past:- Colin Rose for his sheer brilliance with the ball
Current:- Matty Devine for his tackling and directness when he has the ball.
Andy Grimshaw, Steve McNeilis, Karl Thomas.
Bit further back - Tommy Smith, Killer and who can forget âsix foot two eyes are blue Jonny Bishopâs after youâ
Question for Chad:
What was Tommy Smithâs goal scoring record for the Albs?
I think he used to be on the front of the programme one season volleying the ball in mid air ( I may just have made that up!!)
past â chris Nichol , peter mellor , first witton players that stood out when I was a nipper. Also recent past Rob Lloyd, brilliant ball player ran the midfield.
current - Gards , always gives 100% also Rob Hopley what witton have been missing in recent times
Brilliant topic Gards :S not sure on that one Colin ha ha!
Present team: Williams for me, he is everything I love about football, gets stuck in and can play.
Past: Dave Gardner was the first name that came to my head so will go with that one, he was one of the wingers we ever had. But if I am honest Francis Tierney is my favourite he was 2 moves ahead of any player on the pitch absolute pure quality
Has to be Ken Barnes, not only for his own ability but the great footballers he brought to the club. I remember someone asked him why he persevered with a particular player who was not exactly âAll Actionâ and his answer was, âAlways was a sucker for a footballerâ and I could not agree more. Present squad? it has to be Hopley, given even a half chance he always looks like he will score it.
WHS.
Andy Grimshaw for me. Skill, athleticism and hard as nails. Remember him hitting the bar in the 1st few minutes away at Preston, killing the Bolton full back (Cowdrill) on the back post with a header and 2 quite fit ladies who turned up to Witton with a banner declaring âwe love Andy Grimshawâ. Another one was Mark Edwards. Why? The Left Foot. Currently Gards. Commitment and loyalty. Fitness and abilityâŚand he loves his mum. Thatâs 5 reasons. Good luck tomorrow boys.
Pretty impressive 46 from 75 starts
Ken Barnes for his guile
Eli Gorton - endless inspiring energy
Paddy Daly - wizardry
Alan McNeill - midfield genius
Dave Carrick - simply the best
