Fleetwood’s game is off and their backlog grows ;D
A Tuesday night trip to Worksop lies in store for them ;D ;D
They’ve already got a midweek to Lincoln as well ;D ;D ;D
What a shame ;D ;D ;D ;D
What a shame you didn’t take full advantage of the situation. Never mind…!! ;D
Sod Off.
Well put LP.
Fleetwood fans have proved today that they are the scum of the earth.
"Fleetwood 'til I die", that can’t come soon enough for me!
By the way, travelling codpieces, thanks for the entrance money.
With all their away travel to come youthey’ll need emergency grants to top up their benefit money.
i agree with above fleetwood are scum and just to top it off a couple of them had knifes with them
I did hear a couple were seen with knives in town and that is why the police were called by the old crown and they were all searched, can’t comment on if any of them were found carrying. A bit strong calling them all scum though they do have a bad element but have worked very hard on stamping on that at hoome games, not sure what they can do for away games except inform local transport not to take bookings other than through the club. One or two Fleetwood fans came to the home game against Kendal and were a decent sort.
fare comment i ment the bunch behind the goal with us in the second half. there not coming to watch a footy match they were looking for a scrap
Well it’s only a matter of time before someone else gives them a good hiding like FCUM did. To be fair it would have been a good battle with the Worksop fans yesterday!
There is an article in the non league daily today about police visiting known Fleetwood trouble makers warning them not to make the journey to Worksop, so maybe the coach trip to Witton was already arranged instead? it said they had "Specific intelligence" about "identified troublemakers" Chief inspector Mark Holland of Notts Police had warned that "any of the above attending the game would be deemed to be there with an intent to cause problems and will be returned or arrested"
I think the Vics fans generally behaved very well yesterday and whilst there was obvious banter they were not aggressive and stayed in the away end each half. Equally the Gateshead fans were excellent, it says something when they feel more comfortable stood with the home fans than elsewhere, the Gateshead fans were a credit to their club and all of them that stayed on in the club after were very courteous and respectful, especially for Pritch’s presentation.
In contrast the Fleetwood fans were disgraceful, their only aim was to taunt the home fans and were looking for trouble. They came for a fight and every credit to our lads for not giving them one, I think it tested the patience of many in the first half. The home fans should not be subjected to such hostility and frankly there is no place for it in football, there were young lads down by the advertising boards that were 6 foot away from a potentially ugly situation. These so called fans of Fleetwood should be ashamed of themselves and frankly do nothing other than give your club a bad name.
I have a problem with the club on this point. Let me say in the first instance that JE and his team (with additional volunteers) were absolutely superb. There were lads helping out that normally would be watching the game and they jumped into the role. The lads that helped out didn’t do it to join in any fight they diffused the situations and conducted themselves very well. My problem is that this was only down to the individuals who took it upon themselves to help, the club had not asked them to and nor did they co-ordinate the response. The club didn’t have a plan for dealing with it!
In my opinion the club had two choices to make; 1) you turn away these so called fans and don’t accept the additional revenue or 2) you allow these people in and accept the additional cost of police attendance. Whilst I appreciate that the short time may have made it difficult to select option 2 this does not mean that you simply allow them in and hope for the best! In essence you create the risk yourself, you put your home fans in a situation they should not be put. The atmosphere was unpleasant until the police ejected these fans at half time.
In my opinion the club’s current plan to not segregate the Fleetwood game is naive. Unfortunately it tars all Fleetwood fans with the same brush but this is an issue for their club not hours. Frankly their should be segregation and they should not be allowed access to the bar before, during or after the game. If we accept them through the turnstiles for the league game they should be kept behind one of the goals and penned in, they have facilities contained within one end of the ground that means they are self-contained! If you behave like animals you should be treated like animals.
The Chairman needs to make these decisions well in advance based upon the evidence we have!
Bit harsh Rabbit- u have been spending too much time with Putin
A culmination of Fleetwood & Northwich being called off late and a few extra Gateshead fans was a one off yesterday and was dealt with quite well considering as I have given credit for elsewhere. Success brings these problems and I do agree with u that advance procedures for big games should be looked at.
Have to agree with Rabbit (again), the Fleetwood game should be segregated, it is no good being wise after the event if something does "kick-off" we should be prepared. Sadly the game does have it’s "nutter" contingent and ordinary folk have to be protected from them.
WHS.
Don’t think it is harsh at all Eli. Look at the work that Neil and others have been doing with regards to the juniors. The club is trying to encourage youngsters and their families to attend games and the atmosphere is essential to succeeding in this area. There will always be bad language and rival chants at football games and I have said before that this will never be removed, it is part of the game. There is however a responsibility to make the environment a safe one where there are measures put in place to confine this to segregated areas of the ground.
My opinion is that we didn’t have a plan for dealing with this and we were somewhat saved by the efforts of JE and the other volunteers who acted brilliantly in the circumstances (Phil, H and others stepped forward in the minutes before kick-off to help). It is the responsibility of the Chairman and the board to make these decisions and I am sorry but there is nothing harsh in this statement, the responsibility comes with the position. Health & Safety is a primary part of this role.
Until the police arrived at half-time the situation was volatile and at any point could have exploded. We accepted the money through the turnstiles knowing the problems it may create, can anyone give a justifiable reason for allowing the Fleetwood fans to come in (other than 40 x £9). They were hardly difficult to spot, they arrived on the same coach!
My problem is that I think the club contributed to the risk. At the present moment in time there is no plan for segregation at the league game with them and this (again in my opinion) is the wrong decision. Their fans should be restricted to a standing terrace only behind one of the goals and some sort of police presence is required. The cost of this is offset by the additional revenue (from yesterday and the league game attendance).
If it is harsh then I will be glad to apologise, however my opinion is that we got away with it yesterday, more by luck than judgement and due to the quick thinking and efforts of additional assistance to JE. We are exceptionally lucky to have JE and he deserves more support from the board in terms of planning for such events.
We have a plan in place for the visit of Fleetwood. This has been discussed since early Jan and will be finalised in the next week or so. Full details will be announced on here as soon as possible.
JE
Good work as ever JE. My understanding from discussions this week that the plan did not include segregation, I hope for the benefit of all (including the stewards) that this is reconsidered.
It has been included Rabbit
JE
Pleased to hear it JE, in discussions I was party to last Monday segregation was not being included so I am pleased to hear that this might be different. I think anything other than this is an unfair burden on our stewards and creates unnecessary risk to home supporters. If the Fleetwood fans are contained entirely in the Lostock end then they have turnstiles, tea bar and toilet facilities for their own use as well as parking adjacent to the gates. The only thing they will not have is access to the seating area and the bar. Stewarding at the gate could on a discretionary basis allow older supporters, parents with young children and others through to the seating area if seats are required. Not allowing them access to the bars at least means it limits the alcohol consumption whilst in the ground.
Extremely well put. I agree entirely.
Have to agree with the Rabbit on the topc of segregation for the Fleetwood match, if there isnt, it could deter a large nimber of fans from attending the game. Think about it, a large number of neutrals will be in attendance, also, the Arabs have no game, we could be looking at a crowd of in excess of a 1,000. Lets concentrate on watching the game rather than our backs as was in evidence yesterday.
Lets not get paranoid about this - I am sure we can trust the chairman to have the right procedures in place for games with bigger attendances. The Telford play-off match last season went pretty well I recall did it not?
