totally agree with you eli,
je as been planning for the fleetwood game weeks ago.it is all in hand.
Cheers Toneee
Paranoia and preparation are two different things - it is the second I am promoting!
We have handled much bigger games in the past. I do believe one way or another we need to get a lot more professional off the field but lets be honest about Saturday no one expected a coach full of drunks to turn up from Fleetwood there was no real time for any decisions to be made as they got off the coach straight into the ground, the situation got sorted and everyone went home safely that is the main thing.
Well we did. We took a point v the 2nd best team in the league - how did Fleetwood do against Gateshead?! :
In regards to Fleetwood fans; they were spotted in Northwich town centre over an hour before kick off, so the Club were aware they were coming. Not sure if denying them access would of resolved as many issues as it potentially could of created though in all honesty!
I have seen Fleetwood fans at a few of our games over the last 2 seasons and they have been fine. It is just the one group of them that like to drink copious amounts of alcohol and then cause trouble (i spotted the same guy on Saturday who always seems to be the main offender from previous matches).
By the time they come to our place they may be well out of the title race, and the idiots may save themselves the hassle of travelling. However, my suggestion would be to have an early kick-off time of say 12pm. It’s a Bank Holiday, and only about an hour for the Fleetwood fans to travel so wouldn’t massively inconvenience them. But from our point of view, it wont give their idiot element the time to get as ridiculously drunk as they seem to manage for a 3pm kick-off.
We should make the game all ticket for Fleetwood fans - and season ticket holders only (both to be presented at the gate) And if that means some genuine fans don’t get in - tough. That’s not our problem.
Very Sad that we have people like this In our society. What a sad bunch of individuals they are.
I love it when we play Kendal away ! So i can go to The Pencil Museum lol ! How sad am i
Its nice to see that plans have already been penciled in for the game, can’t we draw the line on this topic, anyone would think those "Fleetwood" fans on saturday were Hard Bastards.
;D
Won’t be a straight line if you want pencil to draw it ;D
The club got the heads up on the coach from Fleetwood an hour before the game started. Imo it would have been the easiest thing in the world to turn them away. They were escorted to the game by a police van! Not quite sure what the old bill were thinking off there!!!
All it took was someone to make a decision. Instead I think an ostrich situation ensued, with noone taking responsibility.
As i said last week the Fleetwood game should be segregated with a police presence and also using some stewards from Fleetwood.
The problem was once the police had let Fleetwood arrive at WP, and then once they were off the coach, how do you then prevent them from entering the ground without there being any further issues? Just before 3pm there was a backlog at the turnstiles of Witton fans, Vics fans, Weymouth fans, Gateshead fans, and Fleetwood fans (not all of which were on the coach). If you start trying to refuse entry at that point, then there may well of been a bigger problem than we finally saw in the ground.
I presume the same police van then left after letting them off the coach as there were no police to be seen until half time…
robbo, your last post is one of the most sensable posted on this subject.
isnt it about time this thread was put to bed, and let je and others involved sort out,
if any mistakes were made on saturday.
The Fleetwood game had been called off around around 10am , and one of their fans that travelled to the game on the coach told me that they decided to come to Witton instead of visiting FC UTD ! the coach had already stopped off at the Ring O bells off the M56 around 12 and had a run in with the Landlord after aquiring some momento’s from his pub (they told him that they would be back early on Easter Monday , although somehow I think he won’t want them back!)the Police were escorting them through Northwich town around 1/1.30, well from Wetherspoons to the Crown !
JE - I am doing one of the gates for the Fleetwood game - but if required can assist with stewarding afterwards. 8)
Studies have revealed that the average weight of a Witton steward was increased by some distance on Saturday, whilst the average IQ dropped quite considerably.
My point exactly, the police escorted a coach of people they had been monitoring to the ground and then left! With a little liaison i’m sure they would have been more than happy to escort them back to Lancashire.
Instead of that we (The Cheshire taxpayers) end up with the police plane in the sky above WP dealing with something that could have been prevented.
Surely everything was perfect!
Escort them to the ground, charge them £9 pound to get in plus what they spent at the tea hut and on the bar, then get rid of them at half time with no trouble and no one getting hurt! Perfect ;D
I think Robbo’s idea of a 12 kick off is the best one yet. I have a feeling that this idea may be put forward by the police in the next couple of weeks.
Then it should be well steered clear of,usually anything proposed by the police is only beneficial to them financially and of little benefit to anyone else, they are now a money orientated business and little more.
Saturday football is 3PM, Sky Sports are already ruining the Premier League, don’t lets be dictated to !!!
3PM 3PM 3PM 3PM 3PM 3PM Altogether now Its a tradition and lets face it we aint got much left to hold on to.
Fox, I subscribe to the same view that football should be reserved for 3pm on a Saturday, however the league game is on Easter Monday (so that rule has already been broken)!!!
If the reasons for an early kick-off are based on crowd safety then it is difficult to argue the point. It would reduce the amount of alcohol consumption before the kick-off and potentially this could help. You never know some bright spark on the commercial side may turn a negative into a positive and contact the NPLTV to see if they want to show the game on the web if it is an early kick-off (this will make us a further £400 and the attendance is unlikely to be affected)!
The vics game for the Monday has topically been rescheduled by Setanta for the Tuesday night and therefore we might get a few of them coming to the Fleetwood game - it appeared they enjoyed last Saturday’s game so much!!!
